Inufuto Trifecta

This guy makes everything, FOR everything. It's an impressive bit of computer science wizardry, and it really shows you the difference between all the systems he supports. (And as stated before, he supports ALL the systems. SuperVision, too? The handheld described on AtariAge as the "portable system for the less fortunate?" Yeah, it's there, too.)

As of this morning Inufuto has converted 13, I've just added them to this year's 7800 list here.

We're up to 15.  I do see all 15 on your list currently. :)

Here are the additional 12 titles, as with the first 3 listed, the headers have been fixed:

Just added another one in the last few minutes, Inufuto is cranking them out! 🙂Thank you so much for the corrected headers in the binaries.

Looks like Inufuto is only missing Impetus for the 7800 at this point!

somehow, I like these.little games 👍

I like some of them.  It is a very cool concept and clever programming with mixed end results.

The games presented remind of the days of computer clone versions of official Arcade game ports.

This ad from Atarisoft came to mind first:

Spoiler

Arial definitely feels like Skykid, Ascend provided Space Panic vibes.  Battlot resembles Tank Battalion.  Bootskell is similar to Pengo.  Cavitt is like Digger.  Guntus is Galaga.  Ruptus is a Bosconian clone.  The list goes on.

While they are not fantastic games, I would not label them horribly contrived either.  It is going for the lowest common denominator to easily port across numerous systems.  Most titles playback decently, a few have significant speed issues.  The 7800 platform has seen worse games, but I would not set high expectation for these titles either.

Although not dedicated games, designed to truly leverage the console's strengths, the titles make for quick mini-games, some fairing better than others. It is still amazing the number of simultaneous ports that can be created from common code and glad the 7800 was included among the platforms.  Some were definitely fun for me to play and glad they were shared.

Yes, in fact, Aerial is a horizontal scrolling shooter, similar to Sky Kid.  Impetus is a vertical shooter, similar to Xevious. Ruptus scrolls multiple directions that wrap around, like Bosconian.  Hopman is a horizontal scrolling platform game.

The remainder are single screen games that change after the level/stage/round is completed.

^^ This.

Apparently he has a framework, which he seems to have posted online but nobody except him yet has figured out how to use, which lets him port his games to 40++ different systems (probably 50+ by now, but I lost count). It means that the capacities must not exceed the least capable system, though he does a good job implementing software sprites on systems lacking the hardware etc. Most of the scrolling games use hard scroll because soft scroll is very system specific and most lack support for that.

So yes, if you're looking for top notch games tailored to a particular system, that framework will probably be of less importance but if your goal is to spread your games to as many systems as possible, things like this and the one by Caruso (as mentioned above) will be very valuable.

Japanese hobby programmer "INUFUTO" has not only made 16 homebrew titles for the Atari 7800 in about a year and a half, he has ported these games to over 40 systems during that same time. An impressive feat! Here, we take a look at Yewdow, Guntis, Anti Air, Ruptus, Cavit, Aerial, Mazy, Battlot, Neuras, Bootskell, Hopman, Ascend, Cacorm, Cracky, Lift and Impetus. #atari7800 #homebrew #retrogaming
