Instead of chopping up your 2600+ why not try the Lock-On 2600? I've sold these for 4 years now with rave reviews. They are for sale for $35 plus shipping at: https://aquietalcove.com/products/lock-on-2600 Since I am US-based, not sure how the web store will handle international sales, so do contact me directly if you are out of the US. Thanks! This is pretty neat. I have 2 carts that won't fit in my 2600+. One is a Brazilian multi-cart. The other is a PAL cart. I could but the carts fit in my 7800.
