Room 34
As a kid I always thought of it as TAY-toh, but now that I know how Japanese words are transliterated, I am sure it's supposed to be TIE-toh. It'll always be TAY-toh to me, though.
Brad2600
I say it as Tie-toh. Sounds closer to what the Japanese intended it to sound like.
Raijin Z
Tah - ee - toh Tie-toe or Tight-to, but don't put extra emphasis on anything. You're both correct.

Xot
Play a game of Bust-A-Move 2, 3, or 4 and when the game starts up it says something that sounds like "Go eat a hot dog! Tai-TO!" Anyways, the games pronouce it tie-TOE. But yeah, for years I pronounced it Tay-toe. But it's wrong, so I adapted.
Room 34
But it's wrong, so I adapted. I grew up in a small town in Minnesota. Believe me, I know how to adapt my speech when I learn better!

Though I'm hard of hearing, those speech lessons really paid off for sure if I can say Taito properly.

(The TV show (Flying Circus), not the movies.) Of course... Graham Chapman, John Cleese. If I'm not mistaken, after Chapman says your line, Cleese replies, "You're a silly man." Ze_ro
Someone should write a FAQ about how to pronounce some of these companies names... I think there's been three seperate "how do you pronounce X?" posts in the last while (Eidos and Tengen if I recall correctly). --Zero

desiv
I think you're right! I forgot the "silly man" bit!! :-) :-) desiv btw, I usually pronounce it "X", unless it leads a vowel, then it's more like a 'z" sound.. Following that logic (if that is logic), it should be "z-eye-p". (all one syllable)
Jasoco
LOL. Shades of my Tengen thread! I've always said Tie-do.

(all one syllable) Yeah, I have kind of been waffling between "zype" and "khype" (the "kh" that sounds like hacking up flem).

I think the founder(s) said in another thread it was pronounced like "zipe." My first thought was "zipe-ee." Oh, Eidos is "eye-daws." Tengen, I THINK, is with a soft G (ten-jen). Video
I always said TaTo (like potato without the P) T long A T long O TAATOW Probably wrong, but that's the way I always pronounced it, and I've never had anybody misunderstannd me, in the end, that's the important part IMO. (Grabs huge fake nose) Give me back my nose! You can collect it at reception on the way out. Etc, etc.... Brilliant!!
Ze_ro
OK, then what I REALLY want to know is, how do you pronounce XYPE ??? I think this came up at some point too... if I recall correctly, the Xype guys themselves claimed that it was pronounced "zye-pee". If I ever form a company, I'm going to make the name all consonants, that way people can pronounce it however they want... Look for new games from Nmrpsq Software! --Zero

Mindfield
Tie to for sure Anyhoo Why is it people prenounce Sega as Say-ga? When it it blatantly obvious it is sega as in see-ga?? hmmmmmmmmmm,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Probably because all the commercials say "SEH-ga," the cart boot screens say "SEH-ga," and even Segata Sanshirou says "SEH-ga" -- and you don't wanna mess with him. Plus. Sega is an American name (a contraction of SErvice GAmes), thus generally follows North American English phonetics.
