rpmxxipt
Just idly reading the side flap to a boxed NES action set I have sitting here, and it has games listed under the general blurb "No one creates video hits like Nintendo. From epic adventures and authentic sports competitions, to high flying action and arcade classics." Fair enough. Under Adventure series it lists titles like Zelda, Metroid, Kid Icarus, Zelda II, and SMB. Under Sports series it lists Mike Tyson's Punch Out, Rad Racer, R.C. Pro Am, Baseball, Pro Wrestling, and Golf. Fair enough. But under their screenshots, there's a blurb that says "Plus many other games from the Action Series, Light Gun Series, Programmable Series, Arcade Classics, and Education Series. What the heck carts were programmable for the NES??? rpm
Nukey Shay
Yes...some were. Excitebike for example (you could design a custom track).
JerseyDevil
Wrecking Crew and Mach Rider were also part of the Programmable Series.
sigma
Ah the good old Nintendo genre classifications, color coded for your convienience. Too bad it was so confusing. I was really glad to see it go
Nintendo Penguin
Here you go.... http://www.playnintendo.com/nintendo_power...ayers_guide.htm According to the player's guide, there were four of them. Scroll to the bottom half of the page. I think it is funny that there is only one educational game!
keyngs
i still have my nintendo players guide! Love looking through it. still comes in handy for games like rygar, and zelda
JerseyDevil
only one educational game! And what a crappy game it was.
Nintendo Penguin
I wish they had categorized every game... I just like order. Unfortunately we were all left guessing on the other 700 titles.
JB
The programmable series was intended to use the disk drive for saving. It's mentioned in the manual that the save and load functions are for an accessory to be released later. ... The disk drive never made it to America. sigma
I wish they had categorized every game... I just like order. Unfortunately we were all left guessing on the other 700 titles. It was dropped because third party companies didn't use it, not to mention CONFUSING AS HELL! [/Raijin Z] So you really didn't miss much without it. Jasoco
How the hell is it confusing? "Adventure" "Sports" It's not hard to get those mixed up, you know. I too wish they had enforced that feature and kept it going. I could really use better categorizing on my game list pages.
sigma
Sorry, I didn't so much mean "confusing" as just plain worthless. Besides, if you really want a classification system, go to gamefaqs and look it up lazy britches
JB
Sorry, I didn't so much mean "confusing" as just plain worthless. Besides, if you really want a classification system, go to gamefaqs and look it up lazy britches But GameFAQs has no deia what they're talking about. Their classifications are REALLY hit and miss. Hell, they have a review for a NON-EXISTENT 2600 game. http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/a2600/data/24220.html
