Odyssey Question

I've never had an Odyssey2 unit that had detachable controllers; all mine are hard wired. I've recently noticed a couple of auctions on eBay for Odyssey2 units with detachable controllers and I'm sort of interested. If you have one of these units, can you use a Atari 2600 controller with them by simply plugging it in or do you have to do a modification to the Odyssey2?

Thanks in advance!

Okay. Thanks to all for your responses; much appreciated!

Someone here on the AA forums (my senile mind forgets who) posted once that they had an O2 that used 2600 joysticks. I never got around to PM'ing them to ask if they modified their O2 or what. Now that I saw these units on eBay with detachable controllers I wish I would have asked. Would be nice to be able to quickly and easily switch out a joystick if you ever needed/wanted to. Then again, I've never had a broken O2 joystick so maybe it doesn't matter that much.

Thanks again!

Ok .. Here's the scoop:

It is easy to make an adapter to convert 2600 joystick to O2 console if it has detatchable controllers (and vice versa).

Alternatively you can rewire an Atari controller to work with the O2 .. Just move some wires around.

It is somewhat challenging to convert the wired O2 console to allow for detatchable controllers.

If you are good with a soldering iron .. get busy! :D
