A2600
If I go to a section like private messages a pop-up comes out, if I go to search, a pop up comes out or if Igo back to the index a popup But let me explain you with more depth... I have to visit 2 places in AA, then when I go to the the third a pop-up comes out, even when I went to atariage.com a pop-up came out I dunno if anybody else has got this too! I dont mind but I want to know if Im not crazy!!
oesii
AA doesn't have any popup aside from notify you of private messages. So if you're getting popups like you describe you probably have some spyware or other program trying to take over your browser for advertising. Go here and download Ad-Aware, get the latest, updated lists and scan your system. http://www.lavasoft.de
oesii
also, it's possible to have other windows in the background causing popups to appear even while you're browsing some other sites. Also, do a search for SpyBot which is also a good program to clean up this kind of thing. As is the Google Taskbar which blocks all popups you don't want in the first place. Albert
As oesii stated, there are no popups associated with AtariAge, so it's either some software you have on your machine (possibly installed without your knowledge) or other sites you visited before hitting AtariAge. First, I suggest not using Internet Explorer, and second, installing Ad-Aware as oesii suggested. ..Al

A2600
Don't you wish! Something is obviously installed and integrated into your browser. Scan and disinfect No really it has stopped... Thats some wierd Ship I do have to do a "disinfection" havent doen a disk clean up in a while or defragmentation!!
Nukey Shay
If it happened once, it's going to again. And a disk defrag won't clean your system...you might want to check out that software (which is free) and see what it detects. BTW there is also a free virus detection web site... http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ Hit the scan tag
Phosphor Dot Fossils
You may also want to use SpyBot - it complements Ad-Aware nicely, as they each pick up stuff that the other doesn't. I've never seen any pop-ups here that didn't have anything to do with a private message, and as much attention as AA gets, I'm sure the Als have been approached about advertising - and they're to be commended for passing it up. Support your favorite sites that put more time into content than advertising.
Curt Vendel
Sounds like you're infected with winshow.dll You'll need some anti-virus.... try AVG which is a freeware and self updating anti-virus program (also scans incoming/outgoing email for you and stamps the bottoms of your emails to show they are safe) winshow is a nasty, nasty little bugger and you cannot manually delete it from your HD or delete its registry entry either, it will simply replace itself. Get some anti-virus and it'll find the buggers and kill them. Curt

bjk7382
Yeah it is definitely some type of spyware or adware. That stuff can really slow your system down if there is too much and they watch your browsing habbits on the internet and collect personal info and all kinds of nasty things. You should clean that ASAP.

BoOchan!
/me Points to Signature I'm an Offical Expert and SpywareInfo.com Forums if you ever need help with spyware related problems. If you have winshow and the like, Download from http://www.merijn.org/files/cwshredder.zip, Extract it & run the program. Click the Next Button & let it scan. Make sure you let it fix all CWS Remnants. If you want to Check for Spyware, Please download Spybot: Search And Destroy From http://www.tomcoyote.org/SPYBOT . Check for Updates first, download ALL Updates and Do a Scan. When finished, make sure ALL RED items have been ticked, and click the "Fix Selected Problems" Button. Next, Download Hijackthis from http://tomcoyote.org/hjt/ and create a log. If you are on Windows 9x, make sure you have a Unzipping utility like Winzip (www.winzip.com). Extract, and Press Scan. Then please save the log and Post that log onto this topic. DO NOT Delete or modify anything yet, as some of it is needed to keep your system healthy! Post the Log It Generates at the Spywareinfo.com Forums.

Hijackthis is a nice program, but it is not fully automatic and requires you to do some manual work, AVG Anti-virus will kill most buggers automatically without having to go into directories, delete files, then having to regedit and delete registry entries.... Brad2600
I recommend that you get AVG as well. I also have Ad-Aware. You should get Pop Up Stopper as well.
