chris_lynx1989
i thought i would start a new topic on this to answer a question/answer i saw posted in this forum under "how many lynx games have you beaten" to answer the thing about road riot freezing up at the end of them game: the answer is this game has some bugs in it in the one and two player comlynx mode.the "one" thing one has to remember to strive to do after they do the "qualifying lap" and come in with a good "pole position"on it is to play the "select-o-matic" meter from a clockwise direction."then" the real challenge is you have to come in "first place" on every hosts track. once you learn this fact, they game is not so "incomplete" in nature.the game does lack some fine tuning elements it needed for it to really have been called a "final beta". one needs to get used to the joypad steering and buggy control issues you learn the game has after having played and played this game both in single and comlynxed mode since 1997 --when i first got this eprom title.it is just like the complaints i've seen here on "hard drivin' ",you have to learn to steer with a joypad instead of the steering wheel we all used in the arcade.once you get past these prejudices the games are both great titles really. the only other "bitch"(excuse me) one could have would be with road riot having a comlynx bug in it(it's a minor bug thing too).the only thing i can now remember it having was a "car color" issue in it.the blue buggy is not "blue" on screen at the end of each track when you see the "winners circle screen" in the comlynx mode.the second human players car shows up as a "green buggy" instead of the blue buggy you had during the race.kind of a wierd thing, if you really notice it all.most don't really it seems.if they have i've never really heard of it on aa before. the second possible "only" other bitch(excuse me) would be the select-o- matic being rather sensitive to track choices.you can race them all in any so called order you want to play them-- after you see the finish of the game and learn the tracks that are your favorites from playing it through by coming in first every race and selecting your tracks clockwise.trying to see the finish of the game any other way "will not work!!!". not trying to be a smartass here guys, just helpful by being an experienced road riot 4wd player on the lynx for six years running. no insult is intended to anyone that enjoys this game like i do.just some friendly old lynxer advice from a 13 year lynx veteran. --the lynxer p.s. if anyone has a question on this game,i can probably answer it for you.i've seen the end many times.i've come in third and fouth on one of the tracks during the whole race and had the game "freeze up" the same way too!the control can be pain in the butt too--just like the arcade version i seldom saw anywhere and "really" loved playing. babble
So this game is defnitiely comlynx-able? Any idea how many players it supports? Thank you!
chris_lynx1989
it just supports two players just like the arcade version did.i did try three copies of this years ago in 3 lynxes and only two of them "linked up" as a team unit for comlynx. it is fun with two playes too.try it.it can make it harder to play if you are used to doing solo gaming though.i enjoy it very much in single mode the most myself.--the lynxer
SwedenLynxer
Thanks for the info, chris_lynx1989. You know, when you finally manage to complete the game and this freezing thing happens....it's so annoying. But I will pay more attention to the "select-o-matic" meter and play the tracks in the "right" order now. The thing people usually don't like about Road Riot is the controls. "Graphics is great but the playability is not the best" etc Yes, some people who played the arcade version of course may miss the steering wheel. But I think the problem with Road Riot is that people often are using the joypad to much when they are playing it. What I mean is that in many tracks it's better if you try to steer as LITTLE as possible. Your buggy follows the track very well without to much steering. Sounds wierd maybe but give it a try. I agree the best thing of course is to memorize the tracks. If you can do this, you will soon be winning every race.
chris_lynx1989
you're welcome for the info.i'm glad it helped you.i 'm hoping it has done others some good as well.i see the post has gotten several viewings. yes, your car does seem to follow the track at times, but you can get lazy and you "cruise control" will run your buggy in to an obstacle on a curve. the arcade version was a little iffy with the steering wheel too.the buggy liked to crash a bit.i've found that tapping the joypad in the opposite way of the curve will help keep you in control of your buggy(you need to do this a couple of times).also,if your buggy crashes you need to tap the pad one way opposite the crash to roll your buggy back over.otherwise the thing will just lay there on its side wasting time till you tell it what to do. i can usually can play straight through a game in an 1 1/2 hours.sometim- es i may pause a couple minutes for a break. i find rr very fun to play at times.back in 1997 when i got the games i just could not get enough of the thing.i played it continuosly every evening.it can get frustrating to play even if your are a seasoned veteran of the game,as the buggy seems rather top heavy and seems to have a high center of gravity, just like a real dune buggy may be.--the lynxer
