elviticus
This is a very cool game!... I especially like the surface to air shots at the motherships you can make while on the planets. Also, there's a lot to do compared to a lot of other games : rescue astronauts, shoot stuff (of course!) and filling up your ship with guys gives you a chance to warp off the planet for bonus - COOL! Who else likes this game? Also, the screen where you're trying to dock with planets reminds me of an old arcade game where planets are circling around you and you have to shoot them.... Anyone remember this one's name?
Fellow Atari Man
Also, the screen where you're trying to dock with planets reminds me of an old arcade game where planets are circling around you and you have to shoot them.... Anyone remember this one's name? Mad Planets? Did it have a joystick just like Tron and a dial (also just like Tron)? Plus if the planets were totally harmless until they're fully "grown" and they sprout moons that you have to shoot first before you can destroy the planet, then yeah, that's what it is. And Moonsweeper's pretty tough too!
NE146
Moonsweeper has ALWAYS been one of my top favorite 2600 games. The game reeks quality and has cool effects, and the gameplay is damn good too. I used to be really good at it when I was a kid, but now when I play it I've fallen quite a bit. Mad Planets - thanks.
+Random Terrain
We bought Moonsweeper when it was fairly new and I had fun playing it until my eyes couldn't take it anymore. Imagic made some great games.
Lauren Tyler
That might be Gravitar you're thinking of. At any rate, Moonsweeper is a great game. When I first found out about it via Activision Anthology, I wrote an FAQ/Strategy Guide for it.
birdie3
An old friend of mine gave me this title two weekends ago. I had never played it before so I was excited. What a discovery!! It was the first time I had sat down and played the same cart for over an hour in months. This a great game!! It needs an ending or something though. uosipa llamxew
It needs an ending or something though. Hmm, sometimes I think endings are overrated. I've seen too many times where someone will play a game till they "beat" it, and then never pick it up again. I think that varying game over screens based on score could lend itself well to Atari games. While full screen graphics would probably bulk up a game too much, I like the idea of being given a title based on how well you did during the game, and maybe a small nifty graphic to accompany that title. ie... I'd like to see a version of Sprint or Indy500 that calls you a granny driver if you drive poorly during the game (if I remember right, Sprint at the arcade did this). A nice ending to a very good game is always nice though. I expect that the ending to something like Thrust is VERY rewarding, and couldn't possibly hurt the replay value of the game... that is if you ever get good enough to finish it (which I'd say about 99.9999% of us won't). LOL! Back on topic... I only discovered Moonsweeper about 2 years ago, but it is a favorite of mine. I have yet to find a copy out in the wild. Maybe I'll have to start watching eBay. I'd love to play it on a real console.
spongebue
I showed a friend of mine solaris and moonsweeper (they are a little similar in the fact that it is 3dish) and he couldn't believe that they were atari games
