joshua
i've heard the 7800 was released in limited amounts in '84, were any of the games released to the public then as well? do they all have the colored labels? also roughly how scarce are the '84 7800 systems and are the older boxes with rescue on fractalus pictured on the front the earlier '84 systems? Curt Vendel
I have 2 Boxed Joust's that are color labels and a Ms Pac Man color cartridge. Centipede and one other game were also prepared with color labels. Weird thing is the 84' Pole Position II's that came out with the 7800 were B&W labels. tyranthraxus
Even weirder is that Atari released PP2 as a standalone game. I'd love to know the sales figures of that one!
rockman_x_2002
Sounds like some more of that "E.T." logic leaking over into later years. Sure the games outnumber the systems 2 to 1. But who cares? They'll sell anyway!

GrizzLee
Curt, Were did the color label PP2 appear then? I have one of these. Very bizzare. I always assumed it be an original '84 release. But you stated otherwise. -Lee
Tempest
One of the Jousts was on ebay about a half year ago. I remember almost bidding on that. Tempest

Dutchman2000
Guys- Is there a way that we can see the original 1984 versions of these labels? They used to be on Atari7800.com but I can't find them there now.

Bruce Tomlin
All of the PPII carts that I've ever found at thrifts and fleas have been the B&W versions. PPII color label in a box was in many of the FBE set boxes, but I recall a few sets had a loose B&W PPII with instructions and no box. Joey Kay
I'm sure I've mentioned this before... but... What surprises me the most about the 1984 labels are that you can see the indent where the cartridge plastic is cut out to make the cartridge "anchors". Here I always thought that was a Tramiel cost reduction method, but it appears that the idea came from Warner Atari. Score one for James Morgan for cost-cutting... Cheers!
