jedijeff
Is there any chance Atari was going to add a pokey chip and just never finished it? Just curious. Jeff
+Mitch
I wondered the same thing so I tried it with a Pokey chip and it didn't make a difference. It could be that the version that's available is not the final revision and the sound wasn't added yet. This would seem to be supported by the slightly buggy startup routine. +davidcalgary29
Lee Krueger advises that "Klax" was not programmed to take advantage of POKEY. This certainly is a shame, as sound is really the only weak aspect of this port.
GrizzLee
Lee Krueger advises that "Klax" was not programmed to take advantage of POKEY. This certainly is a shame, as sound is really the only weak aspect of this port. This was based upon feedback I got from David Dentt (The programmer). Mr Dentt did mention that the game was over 90% to near complete when the plug was pulled. So, maybe there were some plans to add POKEY support that he wasn't aware of. jedijeff
It would be awesome if someone could figure out how to use the pokey chip and add it to the cart. Jeff

DracIsBack
Given how tight the Tramiels were with their money, I'd be surprised if they'd be willing to incur the expense of a POKEY chip. After all, in 58 odd games, they only used a POKEY twice. Not to say it's "crazy talk", but I think it's probably highly unlikely. At that point in the 7800s life, their COGS would have shot up as a result of lower run rates, which, in turn, was brought on by not being on as many store shelves.
