128bytes
Hopefully they will be smart enough to put in Game 10 of Warlords (where each player controls 2 castles at once). If they were smart they would issue a 4 player version -- which to me is the best part of paddle play. They could use it in Video Olympics (I had a great game of Quadrapong the other day.), Steeplechase, Casino, and Warlords (of course)). Not mentioned yet in the other Non-Atari paddle games mentioned that would never show up on these is the awesome and underrated Astroblast. SS
I think that it's a real shame that Jakks didn't choose to re-release "Video Olympics" on this thing. Hm, this link says something different. Well ALL RIGHT! That's what I'm talkin' about! Games featured in the device include: Breakout, Canyon Bomber, Casino, Circus Atari,Demons to Diamonds, Night Driver, Steeplechase, Street Racer, Super Breakout, Warlords, Warlords Arcade, Video Olympics, Arcade Pong and Pong. Definitely a buy now! I'll have to look at whether I buy the one player or two player. I could conceivably buy the one player and hack a DB9 socket (for 2 players) and power jack into it. Maybe the two player variations are disabled in the single player unit. At least this would make sense, wouldn't it? How about the two player variations in the 10 in 1 joystick? Are they disabled? Albert
And what a worthless, sad list it is. This is not fit to be released. It's not worth buying this just to play Super Breakout and Circus. Warlords NEEDS a 4-player option. This unit is making me realize how almost all of the 2600 paddle games really sucked. I don't think we are really the target audience, though. Most people reading AtariAge are playing games either through emulation or on a real system. Granted, emulation isn't that great with paddle games (although you can hook up paddles to your computer, such as with a Stelladaptor), but I bet most of us have a 2600 hooked up with some paddle controllers handy. The market they're going after is everyone who played these games in the 80s, but has no clue there is a "classic gaming scene". They'll see the familiar paddle shape in a blister pack in the store and for $20 it's an impulse purchase. The classic gaming community is too small to even be considered profitable enough to produce something like this in the quantities Jakks will be producing them. We're also very picky about the games and will immediately spot any differences between the originals and these new incarnations, as was the case with the Activision 10-in-1 and then the Atari 10-in-1 joystick. Presumably the same will be true with the paddle controllers also. I am glad to see that they improved the design over the original "canoe" prototype, which looked too bulky to hold comfortably. A two-player version is also nice, and I really hope Video Olympics is included (the IGN article states, "Video Olympics, Arcade Pong, and Pong"). ..Al
Bryan
How are these mods done? I really wanted to play Bosconian the proper way. To modify the internal stick, you have to open it and change the diamond-shaped hole in the bottom of the stick (which restricts stick movement) into a circle. -Bry
SS
I don't think we are really the target audience, though. Oh, I'll pick it up for the chance to play some one-player "Pong" if for nothing else. Not as much fun as playing against a real opponent, I know, but I rarely get that chance so this looks like a pretty swell alternative. Sockdude
Sorry if someone posted this already. (I checked and didn't see it.) Amazon.com has a picture up of the latest Atari 2600 "TV Games" model from Jakks Pacific: the paddle model. Seems they needed to change the controller a good bit to fit all the functions in. Sorry if someone posted this in their topic, I just viewed the first page, but what I think is cool about this new joystick is the multiplayer capabilities. I read up on this, and you can play 2 player Arcade Pong! Nice  ! Here's a picture of the first edition of the Atari Joystick.

davidbrit2
Let's just hope they use optical encoder wheels (like in a mouse) instead of crappy potentiometers. And anyone else notice how we've come full-circle back to dedicated paddle consoles?

Sockdude
What about 'arcade' Pong I read about this on IGN (Yes, I know that JAKKS would be the better site, because it would be official.), you can play 2 player arcade pong and regular pong.

What about 'arcade' Pong, & 'arcade' Warlords'? -PongHit[/quote'] I have no idea what "Arcade Pong" and "Arcade Warlords" means. With Video Olympics, I don't see any reason why they'd need a separate Pong game. Could just be they are mentioning Pong since most people won't know that "Video Olympics" is basically 50 variants of Pong. ..Al
