Assuming you had a cartridge plugged in when you did this, it's probably a case of dirty connectors on the cartridge and/or where it plugs in on the 5200. When these systems sit around for awhile, especially with the controllers, the metal contacts get tarnished, just like silverware or anything else. A good cleaning with a pencil eraser and then a good cleaning with some rubbing alcohol and a Q-tip should do the trick (if corrosion/tarnish is the problem). Personally, I would give the whole system a thorough cleaning, getting all the dust and stuff cleaned out of the unit with a vaccum or one of those cans of pressurized keyboard cleaner, I just saw this stuff at Walmart next to cdr's and other disks and cables in the electronics department. I bet it works fine after these steps are taken...
