Dodgy pause button on my 7800

The pause button on the 7800 doesn't really pause anything, it's just a switch that the processor can read. It's up to each game to read the switch and pause the game when it's pressed.

 

As someone mentioned this is the same switch as the B/W switch on the 2600. So 2600 games interpret this as a B/W switch instead of a pause switch.

Please forgive me, although being a 2600 player sin 1983 I'm quite new to the 7800 fraternity.

 

Why doesn't my pause button work when i'm playing 2600 games on it? For instance when playing Seaquest the screen(except for the sprites) just turns black for the duration the button is held down and the baddies keep moving?

 

Does this always happen when playing 2600 titles on the 7800? It works fine when playing 7800 titles.

the pause button is the black and white switch for the 2600 games

 

and the 2600 games dont have the ability to be paused
