Kialan
Ok I have a game gear I bought new when they were still making them, it's run flawlessly over the years but I barely used it (lack of games on my part.) The other day I cleaned my game gear carts with the 70% alcohol isopropyl like all my other carts, and I left one a little wet to clean the Game Gear's connectors. Now when I insert a cart, two thirds of the time I get either a yellow screen, pink screen (once), or the more disturbing turns on for a split second then LED and screen go off. What is going on here? And I can't open it up because I lack a security bit. I doubt there are fibers from our q tips on the connectors, as I checked before I put any cartridge in after cleaning. Looking with a flashlight I don't see anything wrong with the connector. Could it be something else? Also note I tried pressurized air, maybe it blew something into the rest of the console? Kialan
I just also remembered, sometimes the "licensed by Sega" screen is scrambled or blocky or different colors...then the game starts up anyway.
ApolloBoy
My Game Gear does the same thing, actually. Don't worry, it's fine, try cleaning the cart connector again.
BigFairy321
hmmmm my game gear seems to ficker for about 5 mins when first turned on, with no contrast adjustability, and then it goes ok. whats wrong here?
Kialan
I tried cleaning it even more. It's not helping. EDIT: After 'cleaning' it with my tightest cart (Pac-Man) and reinserting many carts over and over testing each time...it seems to happen 1/9th or 10th of the time now. Maybe less. But it may just be the evil game gear is trying to fool me.

Maybe you should try using a toungue depresser(or a butter knife as I've used) and an alcohol soaked cotten rag....like maybe an old torn up t-shirt... just make sure the rag and toungue depresser don't add up to be thicker than a cart would be. Chickybaby
For cleaning, Try using 90% alcohol when cleaning systems. You could also try using a plain kitchen sponge instead of Qtip. Good luck - game gear is one of the best systems IMO and you can never have enough games.
Trooper
Well I had probs with my GG the first day I got it. I could not get one single game to run, I kept getting yellow, blue or purple screens. I finally retorted to stick a piece of cardboard (very thin) behind the cart when inserting it and it's been working like a charm ever since. So my problem was bad connection but I don't know if that's got anything to do with your problem. Cheers! Trooper
