Clock
What in your opinion is the hardest game ever created? I put this 'Classic Gaming' as back in the 80s we never had any save game facilities like todays consoles enjoy, we had to do it in one go, so I'm guessing the hardest game ever will be a classic (although I could be wrong). Here's is a few that caused me stress, Wipeout - PS1 Cauldron - C64 Shadow of the Beast - Lynx
liveinabin
Defender - Arcade Wheelie and Jet Set Willy - ZX Spectrum Sanxion - C64 All swines
Raijin Z
Burgertime, NES This has been agreed upon for years...
YOK-dfa
Not really a classic, but this looks really hard: http://media.ebaumsworld.com/asianarcade.wmv Cheers, Raymond
DeV0
For classics i'd say the hardest would be: Virus, Amiga. Almost impossible to control Shadow of the beast, amiga. Umm, its hard Crazy climber, arcade. Those controls bring tears Reactor, arcade. Im good at this but it cost me alot of $, its hard For the more modern I'd say super monkey ball,, sheesh this is hard
Adrian M
*R-Type (various systems) *Hellfire (Genesis and Arcade) *Hydlide (Nes) *Ninja Gaiden series (NES)
figgler
Adventure Island. I love this, but have never been able to get all the way through. So punishing! So frustrating!
Adrian M
I may as well add Castlevania 1 to the list. That's the one game that I could never finish (and probably never will) as the difficulty just frustrated me beyond belief. Interestingly, CV 2, 3, and X were much easier. Can't speak for the N64 and Sony iterations as I've never played them.
Stingray
Defender - Arcade I very nearly agree with you, but I have to say that Stargate is even harder. I think that game must have been written for those who thought Defender was too easy (like that's possible). -S
kevincal
Silver Surfer is tough on the NES. Mario All-Stars the lost levels also comes to mind.
Kialan
Pipe Dream - NES aaaaaaaaaaah! This game burns! Dragon's Lair - 3DO (If you're not good at the press one button-learn from mistake games....they are insanely hard because you'll never beat it from getting bored of having to repeat everything) Myst without a strategy guide (like me) - Multi platform Cruisin USA - N64 (if you try for ALL the upgraded cars, be prepared to lose many many times and cry like a man)
compacho
Surprised the Ghosts N Goblin series hasn't been mentioned yet. Shame! shame on you all.
Adrian M
Surprised the Ghosts N Goblin series hasn't been mentioned yet. Shame! shame on you all. You're right! How could I forget THAT one! To this day, it still gives me problems, though I was able to finally finish it after much practice.

128bytes
There's an article in Slate today which thinks it's Ninja Gaiden, and links to this comic... BTW - if anyone knows if penny-arcade doesn't like linking to images, I'll remove the link...[/img]
UK WOMBLE
(super) ghouls and ghosts on SNES and GBA Love the game, but damn its too hard ! I didnt think ghosts and goblins was quite so tricky, although it was certainly still very hard ! Si
CincYnoTi
modern games for the most part are just not as hard as the classic systems. for example, if you take out any disc based game and throw it against the wall, it is likely to break or at least scratch. most atari games are very hard and will likely put a dent in the wall rather than the cartridge. Avid Fan
I'd have to go with Zelda 2: Advernture of Link as the hardest. Played it for almost a year straight, couldn't beat it. Played it and cheated a lot on Nesticle. Couldn't beat it. and I couldnt even beat it with a game genie
liveinabin
I forgot about Ghosts and Goblins/ Ghouls and Ghosts. 2 stupidly hard games that bordered on coin theft. ha, I liked that Penny Arcade strip "Ninja Gaiden is so hard it'll kill your friends". BTW, they don't mind linking to their site, in fact they positively encourage it.
+davidcalgary29
I'll reiterate my comments that I made in a similar thread in the CGCC forum: I think that Thunderfox (XE) is the hardest game that I've played.

Trip_Cannon
Impossible Mission - Atari 7800 Damn thing's tough to beat!!
figgler
How DO you kill dark link? Dark Link is the easiest thing in the game. Just stand near the left of the screen and stab madly. Dark Link will stupidly jump into your blade until he dies and you will take no damage.
