Nick Harlow
Can a cart damage a Lynx? A customer wrote me this morning.... "This morning I've received *****, but when I've tried to play it my console crashed (...like a short circuit??)... now every cartdrige I try to play on the machine... on the screen display appears "INSERT GAME"... so what could be happened.... the cart damaged my console... is it possible??" ***** I astrisked the game out because it's not fair to blame any one game.. Comments or ideas would be appreciated?
Matthias
Hello Nick! I don't think that a short-circuit could have been occured, and "INSERT GAME" shows that a lot of the Lynx still works. But what could have happened is that the new card was slightly wider than the usuals (was it one of the old commercials where the chip-die is embedded in plastic? Or one of the "modern" homebrew PCBs?) and has broadened the card-slot so that smaller cards (the formerly working ones) do no longer find their correct alignment. Matthias
Hi! If the problem is indeed that the slot is broadened, then i can't imagine how this could be fixed without serious surgery. If you think of the card-slot as an "U", then it is possible that one (or both) of the wings of the "U" is bend or even broken. But let the customer insert his cards several times in different alignements (as usual without forcing a concrete direction, more to the left and more to the right of the slot). Do we speak about the Lynx I or II? I think the slot-wings of the Lynx II are shorter than those of the I. Regards Matthias
