What are Sierra cart SRL numbers?

Recommended Posts

It is time for a geeky collector question. Boxes for Sierra On-Line carts have a silver sticker on them. The sticker indicates for “Atari Home Computers” or “Atari Version”, then “ROM CARTRIDGE” , sometimes they have a programmer name on them too. The last item always on there is an SRL number. At first, I thought this was some kind of catalog number, however, several of the boxes have the same number on them. Here is a list of what I have:

Jawbreaker II (SRL 212)

Learning with Leeper (SRL 327)

Mr. Cool (SRL 217)

Crossfire (SRL 307)

BC's Quest for Tires (SRL 327)

Oil's Well (SRL 327)

Any ideas on what those numbers mean? :ponder:

Don't know but maybe the numbers on the cartridges hold a clue. The cartridges seem to have TWO letters from the game name plus L then a number. Does the SRL number from the box match the numbers used on the cartridges? The L must mean something. Maybe it means Cartridge. The SR, who knows could be as simple as an abbreviation for Sierra followed by L for Cartridge followed by the game number.

Example of numbers on Cartridges themselves:

CFL-202 Cross Fire

OWL-801 Oil's Well

LLL-201 Learning with Leaper

JBL-803 Jawbreaker II

THL-401 Threshold
