tyranthraxus
I'm just starting to get into NES collecting. Generally I'll buy whatever's cheap but I've noticed a few pawn shops that have what I thought were optimistic prices on their games. I'm just begining to learn about rarity of the games so I was wondering what would be a good average price to pay for boxed games.
mechanized
Something you'll quickly learn is that there is no effective "average price" or even a range of prices. Game Value is determined primarily by rarity and popularity. There are games that saw high production runs that everyone loved that can command decent prices, and there are crappy games that had low production runs and command obscene prices due to sheer rarity. Likewise, Boxes will be affected by this. A box in nearly all cases (excepting the highly produced crappy games and very out-of-date sports titles) will enhance the value of a game, again, depending on the game's value. And then there's always the condition of the box...
Susuwatari
You could find boxed NES game for as little as a dollar in used game bin at video rental shop to as high as $500+ on eBay. Although if anyone finds a boxed NWC, that would probably be worth several grands as a gold NWC cart have sold for a few grands before. mechanized
NWC Cart? What's that about?
JerseyDevil
Although if anyone finds a boxed NWC, that would probably be worth several grands as a gold NWC cart have sold for a few grands before. I didn't think they made boxes for the NWC carts. Have you ever seen one?
MegaManFan
There are no NWC boxes, unless somebody in the tournament had it SHIPPED to them as a finalist prize, then it would have a mailing box from Nintendo's headquarters... but definitely no box in the retail sense since it was never there. (For the know-nots, NWC = Nintendo World Championship. Worth about $3K-$5K depending on if it's grey or gold.)
Susuwatari
The only box I know of are those that shipped the gold carts to lucky winner of Nintendo Power contest. Not an official game box and no I have not seen any either. Panesian games are probably the most expensive NES games with box.
JerseyDevil
Stadium Events is very expensive also.
tyranthraxus
Okay to be more precise. If I was paying $10-15 for good conditioned games would that be too much on average?
Susuwatari
$10-$15 woul dbe OK for most NES games but if you buy Duck Hunt, Super Mario Bros, or SMB/DH combo, expect to be chsatised, flamed, harped on, punished, scolded, flogged, and reamed for spending too much. MegaManFan
Generally speaking, unless they are super rare, I've been able to get boxed NES games well under $10, locally and on eBay (including shipping even).
