Joust question for Joust experts

I was playing the ColecoVision version of Joust and I noticed there was a little tombstone on the screen. What is this? What triggers it? I assume this is also in the arcade version but I've never seen it in the arcade version.

I don't have th CV version, but I play the arcade version all the time. Never seen the tombstone. Does anyone know of an online source for CV manuals?

There is no tombstone in Joust.. in any incarnation that I have played of it. If there is one in the Colecovision version it must be unique to it.. when does it come out?

I downloaded the arcade machine manual just to check and there was no mention of a tombstone in that, I've never seen one. Hmm, wonder what it's doing in the Coleco version.

It is a prototype reproduction that the AA store is selling' date=' so I don't think it would have an instruction book for it. The only bad thing about it is that it doesn't have any sound. Although Tempest said he thinks there is a version somewhere with the sound in it.

Oh, thanks for that info. I didn't even know that AA does Colecovision stuff. I guess I should spend more time on the rest of the site.

 

Being that this is an unreleased prototype I guess there very well could be some strange variation not seen in other versions of Joust.

I don't know what triggers it. It was on the ground, where an egg would be. I was playing it using MEKA and I opened up the 'tile viewer' tool you can use to see all the character art and sure enough, it's in there. You can check it yourself.
