Gateway
So are you saying you are making a game for the Atari 2600 and need help with programming sounds, or are you programming for a modern system but need audio samples that sound like it came from classic games? Paul Slocum
Probably don't need samples. Just compose the music using 3 square wave or triangle wave voices and a noise channel for drums and it'll sound a lot like vintage gaming soundtracks. Use arpeggios instead of chords and lots of vibrato. -paul
kev64az
thanks! that really helps me! do you know where i can get some good square and triangle waves (and esp. noise waves)! Thanks for any help!
Paul Slocum
Off pretty much any keyboard or music generating device or video game system. You can probably find some samples of the waveforms on google. Does the platform you're developing for not have any built in tones? Like general MIDI sounds? If so, it should have sounds with those waveforms. -paul
kev64az
im working with MODplug (MOD tracker) and Anvil Studio (midi maker) i want to make the classic music on these and put it into mp3 or wav to use in the game
Schmutzpuppe
Maybe you can try the Raster music tracker (http://www.infos.cz/raster/atari/rmt/rmt.htm). It allows you to create Atari (XL) music on a PC. You could define instruments and grab the sound (digital) with Total Recorder (http://www.highcriteria.com/) or a similar program to use it with a mod tracker. With RMT it is no problem to create 2600 like sound (the pokey soundchip is like an enhanced version of VCS's TIA).
