Shaggy the Atarian
I was wondering something about Impossible Mission, since the NTSC version is impossible to beat, has anyone hacked this title and released a fixed version? If not would it be possible to do such a thing? Perhaps this has been asked before but I couldn't find any related topics
SS
Rumor has it that this is a fixed version but I've never had enough patience with the game to actually test it out far enough to find out if it's true. impossible_mission_1_.bin__1987___atari___fixed_signed_ntsc_.zip

Cool I'll have to download that at home and try it out. It would be great if this was reproduced on cartridge form

If the game's anything like the Commodore 64 version it'll take the patience of Job to finish it.
Mayhem
Nah... found it fairly easy to complete. Even though Agent 4125 doesn't jump as well as the C64 version. Having said that, this is someone who has played the C64 version to death and has beaten it in under 20 minutes
Trip_Cannon
Yeah, the game is actually kinda easy when it actually works! The C64 version is way better than the 7800 overall. To answer your question Shaggy, the PAL version of the game is fixed. And there was an NTSC version of the game released but in very limited quantities. Interesting. I'd like to get that but if it was a limited release I imagine just stumbling across one must be pretty hard. Thanks for the information
bcprs1
Atari7800.com was supposed to be releasing the fix NTSC version, but that was quite a while ago.
Trip_Cannon
They did for some outrageous price. I remember it being like $75 or something... Yeah, that was a while back. They've stopped selling everything since then...
Godzilla
afaik it never came out. I was on the waiting list forever and was never contacted.... same thing with their save mary, etc.
Trip_Cannon
Maybe not... I never even bothered looking into it after I saw the price on Atari7800.com...
tyranthraxus
Does anyone know when the bug was discoverd? Was it mentioned in any magazine reviews, etc.?
Trip_Cannon
I haven't a clue.. I didn't find out until I started surfing the web in 1995ish.. You'd think Atari would have some sort of beta-testers right?
jedijeff
I remember playing it and not being able to finish it on the 7800. I had no problem finishing the C64 version. I also remember Atari printing one the fan letters asking about it, and all they said was that you could finish it. My thought to Atari was 'let's see you do it then.' King Atari
That's the one thing that has kept me from getting a copy, the fact it can't be beaten. Too bad, Atari must've really been all over the place to let a game that can't be beaten be released.
Classic Pac
I bought Impossible Mission when it 1st came out, and I still find it impossible to beat. What is up with those puzzle pieces? I can just about beat any puzzle out there given time. But the ones in that game...ish
+Mitch
No, a fixed 7800 NTSC Impossible Mission was never relesed on cart, either by Atari or Atari7800.com. Burning the ROM posted earlier in this thread to cart or playing it on a CC2 is your best bet, assuming of course that it was fixed correctly which I don't think has been verified yet. The PAL 7800 version is beatable but not playable on NTSC 7800s. Mitch
Tempest
If I had my 7800 here I'd settle this matter once and for all. But then again, I could never beat it on my Apple IIe either. Will someone bite the bullet and figure out if this has been fixed? Tempest
Trip_Cannon
Where can a person find a "fixed" rom?
FireTiger
what emulator does the fixed Rom run on? MESS 0.83 won't run it but Ialso have to pull the 7800 from the "All systems" because something is slightly glitchy with my 7800 bios 7800.rom -> it always warns me that the games might not play because of a checksum error. bjk7382
Where can a person find a "fixed" rom? Earlier in this post. And I believe the one that SS posted is the one that I pointed out to him that mitch posted in this thread.
Trip_Cannon
Earlier in this post. Ok, I'll give it a whirl..
Trip_Cannon
I can't seem to get it to work with the emulator I'm using (EMU7800)... Is there any sort of trick to get this thing up and running?
Mayhem
If the fixed ROM works okay on a PAL 7800, I'll give it a whirl (through the CC2). If not, then someone with an NTSC 7800 will have to try.
bjk7382
I can't seem to get it to work with the emulator I'm using (EMU7800)... Is there any sort of trick to get this thing up and running? I don't have a 7800 emulator set up right now, but that rom works fine on the CC2, so it should work on the emulator, but I can't tell you why it won't.
