Skatepunk60
Does it annoy the hell out of you switching back and forth from joysticks to paddles? ME TOO so i came up with a schematic for a switch. plug | 123456 on/off on/off switch switch 123456 123456 connector connector JOYSTICK PADDLE its rough but i think i can make one with an extra system and joystick

Genki
Actually it's simpler to make one. The paddle uses up (#1) and down (#2) as the fire buttons. You could wire both joysticks and paddle straight through and have a DPDT switch to isolate pin 1 and 2 of the controller ports. Or just have both wired in w/o the switch. Lady Jaye
Or you could always use a Coleco Gemini joystick, if you can find one. They're not the best joystick out there, but there is a paddle integrated on the controller, aside from the joystick.

Only problem with this is that you'll only get one paddle per port... games like Warlords or Street Racer you'll still need a set of normal paddles for if you want multiplayer. --Zero
Scott Stilphen
Just make a Y-adapter
Skatepunk60
thats what im goin for but with a switch
Scott Stilphen
I'm not following the reason for the switch. If you make a 'Y' adapter, you'll have both a joystick and a set of paddles plugged into the same port, and both will work, depending on what game you're playing. Skatepunk60
That wound work would it one needs to be turned off so it dont interfere with the other one
Genki
Interfere? What are you using, Dreamcast controller?? All the switches in Joystick are normally open so unless any of them are pressed the joystick sends nothing to the console. Paddle's fire button are also normally open contacts. And the 2 pots are connected to it's own line so the paddle won't interfere with any joysticks. The only problem with a straight through Y adapter is if you played Astrosmash as it's probably the only game that can use either controllers. Skatepunk60
See i just think it would be better with the switch
Genki
Then you must like Astrosmash. In this case all you'd need is a DPDT switch to toggle pin 1 and 2. Pin 1 and 2 are used for paddle fire 1 and 2 respectively. And the same pin 1 and 2 are used for up and down on joystick. Everything else can be straight though and not have any problem at all. But if you want to throw in a number pad then you may be asking for too much.
Skatepunk60
Actully its left/right for the buttons (just a little friendly criticizm) but i would like the switch to disconnect the circuit itself to turn that joystick padlle whatever off i wanna make a unit that you can use driving paddles keypads touchpads and controller just plug the two u use the most and flip the switch over to that side YA STILL WITH ME? Genki
Ok for an universal Y adapter, you might want to isolate just the VCC and ground (pin 6 and 7). Without power, one controller won't function at all. While most controller used just ground, there are a few that do use VCC.
