King Atari
Of all scrolling fighter games, "Double Dragon" is the one I remember. I think I played the arcade years ago (I'd have to play it again to make sure, but I can't get MAME 55 to work, but I've played various version/sequels on different systems and have always liked it), but I've always been fond of it. I recently (if about 5 months ago is recent) got the version for Nintendo, and I love it, I'd play it more but you know how hard it is to get games one the NES to work. NOW...after buying the NES version, I played the emulated 2600, and nearly threw up. That wasn't "Double Dragon", that was a little wimp throwing noodly punches! BUT... I played it a little longer and actually found it a little addictive after figuring out I can jump-kick and kick the thugs to death. My question is, will anybody defend this, or am I the only one who actually cares?
King Atari
P.S.- Anybody got a spare copy they want to get rid of?
liveinabin
No, I couldn't get on with the NES version - which was a bit of a blow cause the old Gameboy version ruled! The C64 version wasn't bad - I bet you could get an emulator for that
Atari-Jess
i have the SMS version.
King Atari
I have the Game Boy version of "Double Dragon II", I think it's pretty good (although I've heard that it has nothing to do with the arcade).
cloudmann
Well, I actually did a review on the game at the double dragon dojo at http://www.classicgaming.com/doubledragon/rdd2600.htm The 2600 conversion, while pure poop compared to other conversions (the C64 being the next worst conversion), was a technical marvel for a machine designed to play pong. While you're over at that page, check out some other reviews I did for the page.
King Atari
That's a great site. I've actually been looking for a site with complete reviews of all the games, I probably won't buy the Genesis version now, though (glad I read that review first!). StanJr
I can't even kill the first guy in DD for the 2600. I just threw MY hands up and said "I just don't know." But I did really really love DDII for the NES. It was the best of the NES DD in my opinion. Shadow Lord Stan

moycon
Well I won't defend the 2600 version...It sucks! I remember wasting a lot of quarters with my friends at the arcade playing DD tho.
NE146
quoteam I the only one who actually cares? There was a thread by some guy just like last month where he went into detail of how he actually finally BEAT 2600 Double Dragon (just do a search). So I would say no, you're not the only one

Even NES version sucks (especially in the 2 player dept)
Atari-Jess
i can beat the SMS dd all the time! its a fun game and the movie wasn't as great as street fighter or super mario bros (man i love that movie)
Adam Huemer
The C64 characters had a hole in the middle dividing the character into lower and upper torso because the coders were too incapable to do it properly. http://pirates.emucamp.com/D/ddragon/c64/main.html

Joel D. Park
**I've played the Arcade Version back in the day, fantastic. **The C=64 version, very difficult but my brother and I once beat it, so it wasn't too bad. **The NES Version. I don't remember much about it but I seem to think it was better than the C=64 Version. **The Amiga 500 Version, this game was good gameplay wise, the the players looked like big blue eyed Baby dolls.. (Creepy) **The 2600 version was bad.. Just too difficult. If it wasn't a 16K cart, it would probably be an easy game to make fun with just a few speed hacks in the code though. King Atari
Why did your fighter have purple skin? What was up with that? Someone at Activision was apparently on something.
Eckhard Stolberg
The fighter on 2600 Double Dragon doesn't have purple skin. That only happens when you play the PAL game on a NTSC system (or the PAL ROM image on an emulator in NTSC mode). Ciao, Eckhard Stolberg
King Atari
Oops, I guess I've been playing the PAL version!
Adam Huemer
I wonder if there is any possibility to detect if a .bin file is PAL or NTSC?!
