Problems with Atari800WinPlus

Ok, I've never used an 8-bit emulator before and I just realized that I downloaded this program and never installed it.

I decided to see if I could open several files that are ATR files. I even messed around with the configuration so that this program is checked to be associated with this type of file.

However, what is it? How do I open it? I have downloaded 3 of these ATR files: 2 are from Analmux's SMB 8-bit project that he posted in that thread. Another ATR image is of the SMB clone, Bros.

Afterwards, can anyone point me to a good ROM archive for the 800XL?

I do what you suggest and still, I keep getting a screen talking about a ROM error over and over again.

You need the OS ROM to use the emulator. It isn't distributed with the emulator. Without the OS ROM (there are versions for OS-B (400/800), XL (800XL, 1200XL, etc...) and 5200. Also you may be interested in a BASIC ROM, but it isn't required by most programs.

Search for Atari800Win roms in google. They aren't hard to find.

@Kepone

What exactly is the error message?

"A ROM load error prevented Atari800WinPlus from booting. You should check the settings under 'Atari/ROM images' menu. Would you like to view these settings now?"

This is the error message I get.

  • 2 weeks later...

Download this file : ftp://matrix.ibb.waw.pl/pub/a8/Emulators/.../atari_roms.zip

Extract this file to a folder.

Start the emulator, press ok in the error screen, the click on search button and pick the folder for the romset. (this are the atari romset not games)

ATR, DCM formats, are disk images

XEX,COM, EXE binary files

to load any file, simply drag and drop the file into the emulator.

f2 = option / f3 = select / f4 = start

Set your joystick with alt+j and the video (ntsc/pal) with alt+v.

Sorry, my english sux.
