Less Ugly Donkey Kong Junior

About a year or so ago, I tried to "improve" DKJ, in an attempt to give it a better arcade like look.

 

I still wasn't happy with it, so I thought I'd try again. Here are the changes-

 

Junior is a little less blocky. A few of his sprites are patterend after arcade style (I especially like his "stand still" less turd-like)

 

Papa Donkey kong has a different stance (actually based on the Intellivision version) I also erased the top bars of his cage on levels 2 & 3 - could not find level one's cage anywhere!

 

Mario is slimmer.

 

Nitpicker birds look a bit more arcade like.

 

I also changed the keys a bit.

 

This one is a pain to work with, but it was a fun way to kill an evening.

Incredible improvement! This game looks so much better. This is how it should have been made.

Hey, you're right, this one does look a bit better! Too bad it still plays like ass though. But then, you promised us something difficult, and not a miracle makeover

I only wish I could change the Snapjaws. They just plain suck and they are nowhere to be found in the program.

 

Adding fruit would be a nice touch too, but that goes beyond what I do.

 

It's a shame the first wave of Coleco carts (Donkey Kong, Zaxxon, DK Jr., etc.) are so bad. The later ones like Front Line, Time Pilot, and Roc N Rope are actually decent! (In my opinion anyway)
