Chris-in-NJ
Only my second game ever since getting the game a few days ago, I managed to break 100,000 on the harder version, with the right difficulty switch on 'A'. I still have 8 ships left and a thumb sore from holding down the paddle fire button!
liquid_sky
try to play it with a regular joystick controller. about the only way i know of to boost the difficulty
foxglove9
I agree. I haven't played it since it came out on Intellivision originally, and just last year I bought that Activision pack and started playing it again and boy, I was playing a long long time and showed no signs of ending the game. Eventually I just shut it out of boredom. I didn't remember being that easy.
Room 34
If you think the 2600 version is easy, try Astrosmash on the Intellivision. It is even hard to die on purpose in that one!
Big Player
Ken Uston called the early rounds of Astrosmash on the Intellivision "electronic whittling."
Chris-in-NJ
I've just had an idea: why not play again, get 100,000, and then try to take my score back down to 0 before I run out of ships? To do this, I'd have to keep shooting the spinners, of course, but nothing else. Could I do it?
joeybastard
If you think the 2600 version is easy, try Astrosmash on the Intellivision. It is even hard to die on purpose in that one! You ain't kidding, the INTV version might be the easiest shooter of all time. It takes upwards of an hour before it gets interesting and I think the difficulty is only increasing because I'm fighting to stay awake at that point. Mental Vortex
If you think the 2600 version is easy, try Astrosmash on the Intellivision. It is even hard to die on purpose in that one! You're not kidding. When I was a kid we used to play Astrosmash all the time and often get to at least 30,000 or so before we lost our first life. When I got Astroblast back in the mid 90s (one of the first games I got when I started collecting) I think I got to about 50,000 before losing a guy. Definitely one of the easier games they made, but still a LOT of fun!
Recycled
I love both versions. I haven't played Astroblast very much yet(I just got it), but I get clobbered at around 20,000. Eventually, granted a long time, I get wiped out in Astrosmash too. But again, I love em.
