dinosaur
The only way to get RS-232 I/O from an Atari 8 bit is with the use of additional hardware. The most common are: Atari 850 ICD P:R: Connection ICD MIO CSS Black Box SWP ATR-8000 These use the SIO bus or the parallel bus interface (PBI) You can interface RS-232 I/O from the joystick ports, but you must build a device called an RVerter. This was homemade, never offered commercially. I can't find the URL for it,but a search of XLSearch or Google should find it.If you can't find it,PM me and I'll send you the text file on how to build one+ the R: Handler file. dinosaur
Pardon my mistake, the RVerter is an SIO device also. My error.

cas
Hi, Roland Buehler from ABBUC Regional Stuttgart published an RS-232 for the Cartridge Port. See (german) documentation at http://www.strotmann.de/twiki/bin/view/APG...ArgsSeriellCart ( we might find someone to translate this if anyone is interested). I also have (somewhere) a commercial Terminalsoftware for the Atari 800 with an RS-232 cable for the Joystick port. So it should be possible to do simple serial communication over the Joystick port(s). Best regards Carsten Strotmann
dinosaur
The short-lived Canadian magazine , ROM, described a simple joystick interface, using a diode. This was used to transfer files from the 8bit to the ST. I couldn't get it to work.
