THE ATARI TIMES ANNOUNCES THE 2005 COMPENDIUM January 1, 2005 For immediate release: WINTER HAVEN, FL - The editor of The Atari Times (www.ataritimes.com) has announced the upcoming February 1, 2005 release of the annual paper-based book titled the 2005 Compendium. Copies will be available for sale at www.cafepress.com/ataritimes. The book will be at least 100 pages including news, features, reviews, and previews for all Atari home systems that have appeared on the website over the past year. These include articles for the Jaguar, Lynx, 7800, 5200, 2600, home computers, and even the arcade systems. In addition, the 2005 Compendium will include over 45 pages of previously unreleased material as well as a color cover. Gregory D. George, editor and writer for The Atari Times commented, "My previous 4 books have been quite successful and I have been very pleased at the response I received from the readers. This particular book will have more new material never printed on the website." From February 1, 2005 to February 7, the pricing for the 2005 Compendium is $13.95. After February 7, 2005, the price will be $15.95. Shipping charges also apply. Continued Mr. George, "As with last year's book, the 2005 Compendium is seeking sponsors and advertisers. We are able to reduce the ad prices drastically this year thanks to the fact that we are printing the book through CafePress.com instead of local channels. Full page ads are $10, half page ads are $7 and quarter page ads are $5. The only requirement is that the ad be something Atari related. Here are a few exerpts: evilmaxx17: What was the attitude around atari around the time of the Jag CD? Did they ever really expect it to succeed?Lance: By the time the Jag CD came out, we knew it was all about to end. It just couldn't keep up with the Sony PS. FunkDog: Lance, what was test life like at Atari? I've heard crazy stories of people with booze in their cubes taking naps all day and stuff ... the stories are almost too far fetched to be believable! Lance: Exactly. Those stories are true. I often slept under my desk. I was tired. Greg: Control of Checkered Flag comes to mind... That just needed a little tweak. Lance: We spent MONTHS tweaking the control on C. Flag. That was about as good as the programmer could get it... God, I forget his name. We locked him in Sunnyvale for like 3 months. I had to playtest that thing in manual transmission. Ugh. Darrylb: Lance, did you see the Black Ice/White Noise review? Do you know how much of it was complete? Lance: Black Ice/White Noise would have been cool. We were hoping Black Ice would have been huge. I think there's a playable demo out there now? Lance: So are any of you guys those cool indie Jag developers? You guys are f***ing heroes. Gotta get Carl Forhan in here. That guy is a rock star. Anyway, I'm inching closer and closer to completing this puppy. I'm looking at about 50% or more never published material! Let's see, I ordered it on Jan. 29... And I should get it on Feb. 3... That's 6 days total! That's pretty darn good considering it used to take 10 days to get a book.
