Rob Mitchell
The Atari Flashback unit is on sale at Target for $27.77 through 1/29/05. For those who really have to have one. Rob Mitchell, Atlanta, GA
moycon
Hmmmm This must have just went on sale Sunday? We were in Target Saturday and they had a pile of them, but still listed at $39.99 I think I'd pick one up for $19.99 but that's the max I'll pay. Gregory DG
I think I'd pick one up for $19.99 but that's the max I'll pay.[/quote0Agreed. Although, I probably won't go near it until it gets to $9.99! $27.99 is still too much to pay for that blankity-blank.
Mock
I wont buy one period...I refuse to support that kinda crap.
+davidcalgary29
I bought mine for $40 CDN, and thought that it was an "OK" value for that price. I treat mine as a 2600/7800 multicart and use it when I don't want to hunt around for a 7800 system and bother with hookups, etc. I'd consider $20 to be a good deal for picking one up for mod-jobs. n8littlefield
Do the controllers fit a regular Atari? I figure it may be a shot for me to get some decent controllers. For that matter, does the "extra" paddle in the Atari 2 person paddle set fit a regular system (they're on clearance here, and I could really a paddle so I could at least play Warlords! In case you can't tell, I have 2 Atari's waiting for me to use them, but no controllers Unfortunately in New England, yard sales are the best way to get stuff but those don't start for awhile! J.Max
The Flashback controllers won't work on the 2600 or 7800. Even though the connector is the same, the innards are quite different.
Lord Helmet
I have played one, and they aren't worth a penny. Completely crappy gameplay. Poorly emulated Crap. Spend your $30 on more authentic 2600 stuff.
Stingray
When they hit sub $10 I'll pick up a couple to hack. -S
gavv
When they hit sub $10 I'll pick up a couple to hack. -S what's there to hack? ^^;; gavv finally 'tried' in action one at a best buy. sheesh. exactly 4.5 seconds worth of Air Sea Battle made me not want to pick up the controller again

tantone56
when you own all of the originals on it do you really need one?

Whereabouts in NE are you? I can send some controllers your way at cost. You can also use Sega Genesis controllers.
adams_ale
Why does anyone want this? I hear people calling it crap and then in the next sentence saying the will buy one when it get's cheap enough. I assume just for collectibility reasons and resale 20 years down the road. Hmmm.... I probably just answered my own question.

Unfortunately, I had a place that I was all set to buy a used Genesis this weekend and they sold it out from under me I do have a store I use for games 8bit and up (so no Atari) so I think I'll be hitting them for a Genesis (or at least controllers) within the next week or so. If I have no luck, I'll let you know. I may even hit an indoor flea market in the next week or two, since I know I could probably find one there (depending on the cost)
Big Player
I do have a store I use for games 8bit and up (so no Atari) . . . All Atari games are at least 8-bit. 2600 on up.

Ok - 8bit NES and up (so no Master System/TG16 either...). I stand corrected. I should slap myself, especially spending years trying to convince my friends that my 7800 was just as good as the NES! cimerians
When it first came out I bought one and then took it right back. If you REAAALLLY need to have one try to trade for it. Its totally not worth spending ANY sort of money. Not even a $1. Trust me.
Jamcat
I don't know why people bother with the Flashback. You're better off getting the Atari Anthology collection for the PS2 or Xbox instead. It's just too bad that disc doesn't have Solaris, Secret Quest, Othello, and Dark Chambers.
yuppicide
If I can get some brand new Flashback units for $16-$25 each is anyone interested?! I'd have to check with my wholesaler how much exactly they are and I won't be able to do that until end of this week/beginning of next week. I get 40-60% off on a lot of things. +davidcalgary29
Wow, I'm surprised that this piece of mediocrity has aroused such strong passions in so many! I'm the first to admit that it's not my favourite plug & play device, but I found it to be a reasonable buy for offering a decent port of Planet Smashers and Saboteur at the same price that I'd spent getting each of these separately. I also like the fact that it does offer some historical information about the 7800 on its on-screen menu.
