keilbaca
Check this out, I spotted this, costed me $50 but I didn't care, as its unique, in my opinion at least. They made a pong unit, apparenly in 1977, as the date on the box. Well, here's the pictures! The box is pretty beaten up, but other than that, the console is in mint condition. http://premium1.uploadit.org/keilbaca/Nint...o-Pong-unit.JPG http://premium1.uploadit.org/keilbaca/Nint...pong-unit-2.JPG http://premium1.uploadit.org/keilbaca/Nint...pong-unit-3.JPG
Dr Galaga
Cool. I see that they were in to orange cabinets back then too!
NE146
Very nice.. I'd say that's a fair price too There was a guy on ebay selling a mib copy of their breakout console not all that long ago too... but that went for a couple hundred I think. Nintendo had a couple of pre-famicom games going: -A laser shooting arcade in 1972. -Pong and Breakout style consoles in 1976 ((Nintendo 6, Nintendo 15, Nintendo Block) -Racing (Nintendo 112 Racing)

spacecadet
One little tidbit related to this: the Japanese still use the generic term "TV Games" rather than "Video Games" - because of these Nintendo machines. Nintendo had a whole line of these that used the "TV Games" moniker and it just stuck as a generic term there.
ZylonBane
IIRC, video games were originally called "TV games" over here too. I think some company started calling them video games and pretty much single-handedly popularized the term. I want to say Atari, but my memory of the article is extremely hazy, so I won't. Stingray
Hey that's a neat Pong. Probably a pretty good price for a boxed one. Nice find. -S
keilbaca
Does anyone have one of these? Because I think its powering up, but I'm not sure of the american tv's are tuned differently and is not displaying the japanese pong. Just wondering to see if this this the reason why its not working.
keilbaca
Never mind, it was the power adapter. I hooked it up to my universal adapter and it works like a charm. Only one problem, my tv isn't japanese, so it doesn't sync up with any channels. You can play it on like channel 10, but it has static for sound, but it works. You can also hear the sound through the interference, so the sound works as well. At least I know the unit works...
gdement
Do you happen to have a really old VCR handy? Some of those have manual tuning adjustments on them, you could manually try to dial in the correct frequency. I suppose old TVs might also have something similar. keilbaca
I tried it on an old tv, to no avail. When it gets here from my move from japan next month, I'll try it out on my big tv, I found out today that it has a Channel 1. If all else fails, I have a capture card that I can set to Japanese frequencies and play it on Channel 1.
Famicoman
Nice find, kinda pricey, but it looks worth it.
