Let your voice (synthesis) be heard!

S>A>M> - the memories :)

Back when I got my 800 (around the same time sound blasters were the stuff!) and PC prices were easily $2,700+ for a good setup (I had a 8088 Leading Edge) I ran over a disk in the boxes of disks I had gotten with it from a junior high school here locally in Indiana (that threw it all out I guess?) South Wayne... anyways... I ended up with it... disk labeled "Software Automatic Mouth".

Here I was downloading crap for the 8088 with speaker only playing back lousy low sample wavs or whatever they were (it's been so long) and then having this SAM say anything I want it to.

After reading books and more stuff... it talked about the different graphics modes and how it would alter his voice if you used Gr. 9? or was it 12? anyways... it made him sound evil as hell and I loved it! I used this voice and since I didn't have the poker sam... (wanted it and to this day still haven't played it) I decided to make my own voice software game.

The victim? I chose Eliza..... I had 2 versions (regular talkie) and then the Evil Eliza.

(course... every time it talked the screen blacked out). Was some good times and I learned alot about the 800... and how powerful it was!

I eventually had a radio commercial project (30 seconds) at school and used SAMs voice as the voice over... haha, it was great....

Anyways I haven't used any other voice modules at all sadly enough. If one had been made for the 2600 I would have probably gotten it however.

I used SAM for a pretend radio show I used to record as a kid.

I also used many sound effects from different atari games.

This was all for personal use of course. ;)

Although my sister did get a kick outta listening to them.

It was totally not serious. I would deliberately pick bad or lousy songs etc, and create goofy commercials.
