PuddWakkr
Alright just so everyone knows there is no way to play burned PSP games so pirates lower your flags to half mast. Apparently though PARADOX has cracked the UMD's though. A snippet from the .nfo . S P E C I A L N O T E S . | | Of course you can't play this game yet, and you won't be | playing it anytime soon on a burnt umd disc (as sony has | already said they wont be releasing burners for these). | | However maybe it will give you an idea of what PSP games are | like, and just what is hidden on those little discs :) | Hopefully it will give psp developers a chance to look into | the files etc used on a UMD. Knowing what files are present and | where in the filepath they can be found may help with loading | of 'driver' files etc from disc. | | (Hint: UMDs use an iso9660 based filesystem, so this image file | can be opened in any iso image browser such as isobuster to | look at, extract and generally play with the files within. | It could also be burnt to a dvd to let u access the files on | your computer such as in windows explorer) Also a link to the nfo - http://s92344561.onlinehome.us/pdx-rrcr.nfo Really can't wait for some decent emulators for this thing. Hope this helps speed the process along a bit.
Jess Ragan
I don't see how this would help speed up the development of emulators... programmers should already be able to make those by storing the code on a memory stick. All this is going to do is hasten the development of bootleg discs, which aren't going to be a hot item with so few games available for the PSP. PuddWakkr
I just wish they would release the ripping program so I can get a lumines iso on my PC so I can extract the music and make my own soundtrack.
Shannon
Well one of the cool things like puddwakkr said would be the ability to rip the music from certain games. But other than that there really is no advantage to it. Especially for the homebrew scene. So that being said I'm pretty much against it. It uses alot less power to run a game off a memstick than it does to spin that optical drive. Batteries would last much longer. Course you'd actually need to be able to load games from mem sticks but I think you get my point.

Plus a UMD movie burns almost twice as much power as a DUO movie- According to my PSP system settings. Shannon
One would presume that moving parts vs non-moving parts plays a part as well.
