82atari5200
I was trying to do the 7800 video mod on Tilton's website and have consequently fried two 7800's. Could I have blown out the video buffer or would it be better to buy a new 7800?
Bruce Tomlin
This is the one where you hook up a bunch of wires to that row of resistors, right? The first thing I'd try is to remove the mod completely. Really, you need to check that the thing still works after various substeps in a mod with that many wires to hook up. Then at least you can have some idea of when things went bad. Are you working in a static free area? Can you ground yourself when working on circuits? Rob Mitchell, Atlanta, GA

I fried 3 5200 the same way but had 6 of them so it really didn't matter. My 7800's though I was onl;y lucky enough to find 2 and both of them died. Yes I was grounded. You should invest in 8-bit's AV mods for both the 5200 and 7800! I wonder if it is just a bad TIA chip?? Rob Mitchell, Atlanta, GA

Purchased the 5200 mod last year. Frickin awesome. Plan on getting the 7800 mod as soon as I get my new one.
