ziggystar
Is there any way to modify the VCS adapter to work through the 5200 with a video mod? I want to be able to have both the 5200 and 2600 through the video monitor. thanks!
+Mitch
You could probably run a wire from the composite in pin on the cart slot to the composite out on the video mod. You will most likely have to play around with it so they don't interfere with each other though. Mitch

But yes, you do have to mod the 5200 itself. Mitch
l3ushwig
Remember... Don’t stick a 2600 chip in the 5200... It will blow a fuse in your AC..... Edited July 12, 2005 by o0o_BuShWiG_o0o
ziggystar
Ok, so give me a little more detail on this. I could then just mod my 5200 to always allow for the adapter to output composite. Can you draw me a schematic? Tell me what line to run a wire from, you cautioned, should I include a swtich? What if I was never planning on using standard RF video again. thanks! +Mitch
OK, just let you know, I haven't done this personally but looking at the schematics this should work. Connect a wire to pin 24 of the cart slot, then connect a 1N914 diode to the wire with the anode toward toward the wire. Connect the cathode end of the diode to the middle of your composite mod. If you are using the composite mod from the 5200 FAQ, connect where the arrow is pointing: o+5V | | + |---|(----, | 100uF | | \/ GND | | | | 10uf | |---/\/\/---,--|(--, CR1 750 | 1.6K | 10 | + | Sync --|<]--/\/\/-, | ,-/\/\/-` | \/ GND 4.7K | | | ___/-------` Luma 3 ---/\/\/-----|\|/| Q /|/c\ 9.1K |---|------(b| ) RCA jack Luma 2 ---/\/\/-----| | \|\e/ 75 __ 18K | | \-----,---/\/\/-----O__ LUMA Luma 1 ---/\/\/-----| | 2K | | OUTPUT 36K | `-/\/\/----/\/\/--` GND \/ Luma 0 ---/\/\/-----` | 75 GND \/ The cart slot numbering as you look at it from the top front: 36 19 oooooooooooooooooo oooooooooooooooooo 1 18 I hope that helps. ziggystar
hmm this makes sense, I'll give it a whirl. Nothing should interfere. What about 2 port vs. 4 port differences?
+Mitch
What about 2 port vs. 4 port differences? 890500[/snapback] Well, if it's an unmodded 4port the 2600 adapter won't work anyway. If it's a modded 4 port it's the same as the 2 port. Mitch
ziggystar
I'm using the mod that was sold on ebay, it was a plug and play deal, just one or 2 wire clips to some pins, and a chip removed and plugged into a daughter board. Here might the wire go on that mod? thanks

+Mitch
Hmm, mostly surface mount stuff. You are probably going to have to connect the cathode end of the diode to the pin that the yellow wire is plugged into. This should give you a picture, whether it is a strong enough signal is the question. It also won't work with an S-Video connection, only composite.
