danwinslow
Well, I am recasing my Falc, and under the impression that the floppy drive cable was connected in a normal fashion to the MB...I gave it a good tug and the cable popped out of the fitting, which is now broken yet still firmly embedded onto the board. Apparantly it does not remove. So..what do I do now? Any advice?
techie_alison
Nightmare!! Hope you're good with a soldering iron. Buy some pin strips; http://www.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx?ModuleNo=1500&doy=26m7 Should be able to use a normal PC FDD cable, before the twist; http://www.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx?ModuleNo=10946&doy=26m7 Actually, on the above cable, am tempted to say that after the twist will be Drive B, although not certain of it on ST kit. Might be, one way to find out. Some IDC Connectors if you'd like to make up your own cable; http://www.maplin.co.uk/Search.aspx?MenuNo...Menu=y&doy=26m7 The IDC Connectors can be crimped quite easily in a vice, as it'll need to go together evenly. If so, you might be able to get by with re-attaching the cable. It just pushes down on there anyways. You will need some tool with a square end, to match up with the cable/pins. Make sure you have the red stripe lined up with pin 1. I recased my Falcon in a Wizztronics rack case and used a a PC floppy extender cable. It worked with no problems (seems like I had to flip something though). HTHs.
