+remowilliams
Anyone know if I can replace VR1 (a TI UA7805C) with a one of these guys http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?cata...t%5Fid=276-1770 The RS one is rated at 1.0A output. The TI one is (I believe) rated at 1.5A. Not sure how much current the 7800 draws.
Shawn
I would try to get something a little bigger to be on the safe side

And I didn't really want to go through Digikey, etc.
CPUWIZ
The 7805 from RadioSucks is fine, it has the same specifications.
Bruce Tomlin
I would try to get something a little bigger to be on the safe side Uh, not really, especially since the 7805 isn't even being used to half of its rating anyhow. And anything with a higher rating probably wouldn't fit in the same space. It would also be named different, probably "78H05". (I know that 78L05 is the low-current version.) Anyhow, I have a ton of these that I've salvaged off of stuff. (and a few other voltages too, especially 7812) If he was in Austin, I'd tell him to come by and get a few. +remowilliams
Thanks guys, I went with Cellphone Shack's VR, and it hasn't blown up yet RS - the only place I can walk into with a cell on one side of my belt and a blackberry on the other, and an earpiece in my ear - and still be asked if I need a cellphone.
