7800 voltage regulator

Anyone know if I can replace VR1 (a TI UA7805C) with a one of these guys http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?cata...t%5Fid=276-1770

 

The RS one is rated at 1.0A output. The TI one is (I believe) rated at 1.5A. Not sure how much current the 7800 draws.

Normally I would go for a bigger one, but RS sucks monkey nuts and only carries this one. And I didn't really want to go through Digikey, etc.

The 7805 from RadioSucks is fine, it has the same specifications.

Uh, not really, especially since the 7805 isn't even being used to half of its rating anyhow. And anything with a higher rating probably wouldn't fit in the same space. It would also be named different, probably "78H05". (I know that 78L05 is the low-current version.)

 

Anyhow, I have a ton of these that I've salvaged off of stuff. (and a few other voltages too, especially 7812) If he was in Austin, I'd tell him to come by and get a few.

Thanks guys, I went with Cellphone Shack's VR, and it hasn't blown up yet

 

RS - the only place I can walk into with a cell on one side of my belt and a blackberry on the other, and an earpiece in my ear - and still be asked if I need a cellphone.
