Atari BBS List

PUTTING THE DIALUP NUMBERS TO REST.....

Ok, I got the bug to search for the existing Atari BBS's. But first I wanted to put the following numbers to rest. If you have these numbers in your directories, please erase them as they are no longer active. Mind you, I made comments on this list (from Holyoak's site) on the United States and Canadian numbers. I cannot cheaply call the international numbers, so if someone over there could please let us know if any of the numbers listed below are still active, that would be awesome!!

(Holyoak has been given a updated list to put in the place of this list.)

Had one delightful conversation with the first number...

Cutters Ecclectic Collective-Atari (is a stone cutter for a living) Node 86

01 ? : 604-873-1131 *

Vancouver BC Canada

Atari-8 : OK : 99-06-09

130XE/BBS Express Pro

Node #86/300-14.4k bps

(BBS Currently down BTW...)

Made a call to Canada, not something I would do for long, since I don't think that is in my Sprint long distance plan. :/ But actually got the sysop of that BBS!!! We talked for a bit, and he seemed surprised to hear that someone else used an Atari computer aside from himself, which he uses at his stone cutting business to write invoices. (cool!)

Told him about the current telnet BBS scene, and said it would be cool to see his BBS up again in the telnet world. Or just to have him visit the existing BBS's. Got his E-mail address, and sent him a updated list of BBS's, which I will include next. Always cool finding an Atari user that might not been aware of the current activities of the Atari realm! ;)

And now... the updated BBS list...

Here are some BBS's out there to visit (run on Ataris or Atari emulation)

(ongoing BBS list and a mention about us talking tonight will be listed at...

http://www.atariage.com/forums/index.php?s...p;#entry1252343

)

The Boot Factory

WEB: http://bf.amfband.com

A8bit BBS: telnet://bfbbs.no-ip.com

or: telnet://bfbbs.dtdns.net

Inside The 8-bit - (2 lines)

telnet://TCPIPExpress.dyndns.org:8888

:8889

expresspro.dyndns.org 8888

MouseNet BBS

telnet://atari-bbs.kicks-ass.net

Dark Force BBS (Run on a Mega 2 ST)

telnet://darkforce-bbs.dyndns.org

ST Guild BBS

stguild-bbs.dyndns.org

Closer to Home BBS

cth.dtdns.net

Plus there are two chat locations

telnet://irc.atarichat.net

(Enter "atari" at login, skip the password (enter), and then enter a name.. will take you straight to the IRC chat.)

Usually somethere there most of the time.

telnet://www.atarinews.org

(Enter in this order... "bbs", "Bbs", enter name and password at the next login, enter, t for talk, c for chat, then a name and you're in)

Chat times 7:00 PM CST Tuesday nights

10:00 am CST Sunday (EuroChat)

Just in case you missed it on IRC... I can call the international numbers for you... just tell me which ones you want me to call!

Whoo hoo!! Thanks! Only like three numbers.

BTW... there is one Atari BBS I cannot list that is available over Telnet (Thunderdome), but wanted to mention as encouragement to others calling or running BBS's.

???????????????????????????????????????????????

????????????????????????????????????????????ͻ???

???? THUNDERDOME, the ATARI 8-Bit + more BBS ????

????????????????????????????????????????????ͼ???

???????????????????????????????????????????????

The place:

-- where Intel is outdated;

-- where Mac doesn't exist;

-- where Amiga is a traitress;

-- where Gameboy is a perfect Windows emulation;

-- where ATARI keeps humming and drives still spinning;

-- where cubes are rounded and the balls been squared

-- where the sysop is brainwashed...

Lets make a wiki for the current BBS system out there on the ataris either dial up or telnet?

You know that's a good idea.

So far it is all telnet. No dialup BBS's have been found, though I am checking to see if the SPACE BBS is still up or some of the remaining user group BBS's.

Would love to find some dialup BBS's. Don't know why, but I have a special place in my heart for the BBS's that are connected to the analog lines too. (And if I ever put up a BBS I would probably connect mine to both a phone and telnet line)

Of course, with as little traffic as a phone line gets (local area only) It would be partially just for bragging rights, though I think the ability to call other local BBS's through the telnet feature was one thing I wanted to do.

Ok, after going through all the Atari BBS's on bbsmates.com (where it lists all the BBS's past and present) I found two possible BBS's that either could work, or the sysop is interested in keeping a BBS going...

Souledge BBS

http://www.geocities.com/souledgebbscenter/

The Black Box BBS

http://www.bbsmates.com/viewbbs.aspx?id=146533

And this I'll list since this guy seems to appreciate the old school BBS's...

The Shack

http://www.bbsmates.com/viewbbs.aspx?id=147238

I would like to get a definate word on the SPACE BBS (which was up as a telnet BBS at one time and active till not long ago), the SCAT BBS's they have listed on their publications, and didn't CSS (or the people that make the Black Box) have a BBS as well?

Here is a BBS that is not run on a Atari computer, but still raises an eyebrow...

"I Still Like Atari BBS" (Yes, that is actually the name)

http://www.bbsmates.com/viewbbs.aspx?id=148877

(They have Legend of the Red Dragon there) :)

In a few days I will reboot my Atari Inside BBS.

It will be available on a new internet address, running on

Real Atari 800XL (64KB)

BlackBOX

80GB IDE Harddisk (conneted via IDE -> SCSI adapter)

Lantronix MSS100 Ethernet -> RS232 bridge

The board will give you:

real atari 8bit feel

online games

message base (like a forum)

Probably I will support some download, but that's just for the show. I think no-one needs a bbs with download... If I'm wrong, let me know.

In the past I have had several problems with bad harddisks, and failing mux connections. Now I have bought a brand new harddisk, and I don't use the mux anymore. The BBS runs on very Stable 64KB 800XL computer. So I think this could run rock solid.

Let's hope I'm right :)

Stay tuned for more info.

Thanks

Extemely awesome! You know you had a great BBS and I look forward to seeing it again! :)

Well it is...

NEW USERLOG ... so everyone has to register again (if wanted)

NEW ADDRESS:

telnet://ainside.no-ip.org

I like that address very much. It is much better than an IP number (which does not work anymore by the way)

The port is 23 ... in case your terminal software needs that info.

BBS runs on Atari 800XL (64KB)

BlackBox Harddisk and Modem interface

Modem = Lantronix MSS100

If line appears to be dead: the BBS is occupied by anyone online or some events (or maintenance by me)...

That's the only thing I don't like with the Lantronix: there is NO busy message, when the bbs IS busy :s

Have fun.

I'll write a little tutorial today, and make some pictures, and put it in the "BBS POLL" Thread, started earlier this week.

Thanks

Marius

Good to have you back Marius! Working to make sure all the lists get updated!

And as I do that, here is another fun bit of news I'm letting BBS fans know about...

Carrier Whistle (v2.0) - Episode 3

September 10, 2007 1:53 am MobbyG Carrier Whistle

The return of The Carrier Whistle Podcast! A little tweaked and hopefully

sounding good! Love to get some feedback on this one.

Host: Rich Lawrence

* Yesterday: Tradewars - Where can I play?

* Today: Idea for setting up a WiFi Hotspot for your BBS.

* Some Antenna designs for your hotspot.

* BBS Spotlight: Mars Den BBS, Dallas, Texas.

This is a Podcast/Mp3 about BBS's. There have been four episodes so far. This

is a great place to submit your own BBS's for advertising as we explore this

new media for talking about BBS's.
