ubersaurus
The dust cover on one of my atari carts keeps staying down after you pull the cart out. About all I've thought to do is pull it back up with a pair of pliers, anyone else have this problem? Any recommendations?
Lemmi
I have one that sticks from time to time, all i do is slam it into my hand and it snaps back into is normal spot
+-^CrossBow^-
Not sure there is much that can be done about that. Basically the plastic inside and on the outer edge of the cover are worn down to the point that they don't glide over each other smoothly anymore. I suppose you could do what I ended up doing...which was to crack the card open and clean both the inside and dust covers well with some 409. Then I applied a very very very small amount of silicon lube on the sides to keep it going. I will add though that just the 409 cleaning may be enough. Also you can try and reform the spring inside. Just make it stiffer somehow so it has more strength to push the dust cover back.
King Atari
I've got a Space Invaders where the dust cover is slanted. I can put it back in place, but it's annoying. Same with a copy of Air-Sea Battle.
ubersaurus
Well this one is my Vault Assault cart, and I'd rather not damage the label, so I'm not too sure how to go about this.
Paul Slocum
When I assemble cartridges, I clean the dust cover with a cloth that's been sprayed with plastic-safe silicone lubricant. I wonder if this might help? The first few Synthcarts I assembled had the same problem you're having, and it was because a capacitor on the board was catching the dust cover. It only happened on 4 or 6 switches -- not on Jrs. I solved it by folding the capacitor down on each board. Vault Assault would use a different board since it's only 4k, but I wonder if it might be a similar problem? -Paul
ubersaurus
Need I open it to clean the dustcovers sufficiently?
Paul Slocum
I was thinking you could spray a Q-Tip with some silicone spray, then push the dust cover all the way in and swab around the inside of the cart. Then work the dust cover in and out a bit. Maybe repeat the process twice. Don't know if it'll work but it's worth a try. -Paul
ubersaurus
I'll give it a shot when I get home, let ya know if it works.
