Brian Kendig
Which of the Flashback 2 games are unreleased prototypes developed by Atari, and which are homebrews developed by fans?
Lord Helmet
Done by fans: Return to Haunted House is a hack of Adventure, but is more like an original game than most hacks. Atari Climber is Climber 5 in the AA store. The other unreleased games were developed by Atari, or are hacks of existing Atari games, hacked by Atari developers: Asteroids Deluxe Space Duel Adventure 2 Lunar Lander Yar's Return I think that's it...Someone else wil add to the list if I forgot any. Brian Kendig
Thanks! Which were developed with the intention of releasing them, and which are just hacks on existing games? I'm trying to pin this down for the Wikipedia article. Like, Lunar Lander and Pong both look like original works, but I don't see anything about them in the AtariAge cartridge database. Foxsolo2000
How would I find out more information about this Cavern of Mars Homerbrew?
+DamonicFury
Here's the breakdown: Hacks: Arcade Asteroids (hack of Asteroids) Adventure II (hack of Adventure) Return to Haunted House (hack of Adventure) Homebrews: Atari Climber (originally Climber 5) Prototypes: Aquaventure Combat 2 Frog Pond Saboteur Save Mary Wizard Brand new games exclusive to the Flashback 2: Arcade Pong Asteroids Deluxe Caverns of Mars Lunar Lander Space Duel Yars' Return All other FB2 games were released for the 2600 in the classic era. However, Fatal Run was PAL-only and Quadrun, as we all know, was extremely rare due to it's exclusive release through the Atari Fan Club. mos6507
Hacks:Arcade Asteroids (hack of Asteroids) Adventure II (hack of Adventure) I don't think Adventure II is a hack in the traditional sense. The kernel is definitely different for one thing (the square is not using the ball sprite for instance).

A change, to be sure, but not exactly a huge one nor one that should remove it from the real of being a 'hack'. There are bigger changes as well, including the use of more, higher resolution screens, the addition of bank switching, etc. but they're not really any more extensive (so far as I can tell) than the changes in something like Sadistroids or Hack'Em.
