dimtree
Hi, I'm researching the audio capabilities of early videogames and home consoles and I'm very interested to find out the exact audio spec for the Stella chip. Whilst the Pokey is well documented, there doesn't seem to be very much on the audio functionality of the VCS. Many thanks.
Ze_ro
Well, instead of trying to sound like I know what I'm talking about... I'll just provide some links that might help you: Over at Nick Bensema's Programming Page, you can find the Original Programmers Manual (PDF), and there's also a Sound Frequency and Waveform Guide that might prove interesting. --Zero
Paul Slocum
Basically it has 2 independent voices, 16 waveforms although many sound very similar, 32 pitches, and 4 bit volume control. And the pitches are generated by sort of a clock divider, so you don't get a very good musical scale except for some octaves and fifths. You might check out my Synthcart where I tried to take advantage of the sound hardware as best I could.
