You gain points everytime you shoot something, but you lose points everytime something hits the ground. The screen changes color when you reach certain scores, but if your score decreases because of targets hitting the ground, it'll switch back to the previous color. Nice thing is, when the game's over, it displays your "peak" score, the highest number of points you achieved at any point in the game.
