PacManPlus
Hello: I was looking at a 16k board, and a thought came to me: I see just the main ROM on the board, and no smaller chip that contains the bank switching code. (I think it's called a GAL?) Assuming that the bins contain all the information found in the ROM, where is the bank-switching code in an actual cartridge? Thanks Bob
sebastius
It's integrated in the ROM chip, both the game and the bank-switching logic.
Bruce Tomlin
It's not "code", it's circuitry. And when you're buying chips in the tens of thousands, a chip manufacturer will happily add a few dozen extra transistors. It's a LOT cheaper than having to use a separate chip, even a glop-top. PacManPlus
Thanks guys - that explains things. I guess that's why nobody tried to get a 16K eprom re-wired on a standard 16K Atari cart. Bob
