Robotron- 2 Players Working Together is Great

I just finished playing Robotron with a friend in the two joystick mode. He controlled the movement and I was the shooter. I love Robotron in general but playing as a team the game is one thousand times better.

 

We actually scored 711,000 points as a team.

 

Any thoughts or stories to share?

One time I took both 2600 joystick black tape them togther to get a better grib on the game.

I dont have friends, but for some reason I had TWO Atari 2600 joysticks with suction cups and those worked great with R2084... unless it was an arid day. I also had to sit funny... like yoda style to play them, but oh well...

There's a Mech Warrior game for the Genesis where the two player mode is intentionally like that.

I built me a dual atari 2600 controller a while back using a ps2 arcade joystick. It works great for robotron

I whipped thsi game out, and almost cracked 1,000,000. I cam close at 996,000... Doh! So close.

 

Two player joystick options is great on the 7800 version. I personally, use Suncom Tac-2 controllers and they work great!

Yes. Robotron works just fine with 1 button controllers.

Thats how my brother and I played throughout the 80s on our 800xl.

I liked it better, but my brother didn't like playing it that way. Why I don't know.

7800 Robotron with a pair of Radica Space Invaders joysticks is a joy to play. The rubber feet of those sticks (combined with their wide base) keep them in place pretty well without any extra reinforcement.

That's how the co-op mode works in the Live Arcade. My girlfriend and I were playing a few weeks back.

Thats how my brother and I played throughout the 80s on our 800xl.

 

Friend of mine and I (the last Atari users in the planet.. or so we thought in the mid nineties) would get together and play Robotron like this, but more so Star Raiders (800), Star Raiders ][ (800), and Return of Heracles!

 

Oh, and Spy Hunter my friend of mine, and my sister, would also play this way.
