accousticguitar
I tried searching "favorite" and came up with 35 pages. I looked through the first 12 and couldn't find any relevent posts from the 8-bit category. I am looking for some new games to try.
Gregory DG
Hm... well, I pretty much just played the cartridge games that you've probably played already. The other stuff I messed with came from Antic, Analog, or Compute! magazine. By the time I got a floppy drive, I couldn't get software for it anymore. Anyway... My favorite cart games are Donkey Kong, Star Raiders, Hardball, Millipede, & Dig Dug.

Lord Thag
I'll second the vote for Blue Max. Awesome game. Kind of River Raid meets Zaxxon. I also enjoy: Gateway to Apshai: An early, very fun, action RPG with TONS of levels. Oil's Well: Strange, very fun pac-clone DK/DKJR: Of course. All four levels in arcade order! Field of Fire: Great strategy Game Wargame Construction Set: As above, only more tweakable! Zone Ranger: Great shooter Dreadnaught Factor: Attack star destroyers. What's not to like? Jumpman: Best DK style game of all time. BETTER than Donkey Kong. That'll do for starters. PM me if you want more. I got lots Edited February 17, 2008 by Lord Thag
ClausB
My first game is still my favorite. It is what originally sold me on the Atari. Of course, it is Star Raiders. I just pulled it out again for the kids, who have Game Boy games, and they like it too. Back then I yearned to play it on a big screen TV and now, 27 years later, I can! Nik says: "I like the ranking names, like Garbage Scow Captain and Galactic Cook."
StickyNote
For the Atari 800 it was Asteroids hands down. Why? Because it had four player simultaneous action! Whenever a bunch of friends or relatives came up, we would have Asteroid tournaments that would last for hours on end.
bfollett
I didn't think I would need to chime into this discussion, but since I didn't see anyone list these, I'm going to have to. Alternate Reality series (City and Dungeon). Years ahead of their time. Bob
