+Guitarman
I have 2 MegaST2's, one with TOS 1.02 2 chip and one with TOS 1.04 6 chip. 1. To put the 6 chip set in a system that had 2 chip set, is there any mainboard changes I need to do?? Reason... I put the 6chip 1.04 in the 2chip system and it will not boot properly. 2. If I were to make my own chip set, what eproms would I use to burn a 6chip set and a 2chip set?? I have an eprom burner and TOS images. 3. If burning my own chips, is there anything I need to know about the rom images??? i.e. how to split them, any extra data in the image that needs to be removed before buring, etc..... Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Edited December 5, 2006 by Guitarman
+Guitarman
Found it!!! There is a mod to the MegaST board if switching between 2 & 6 chip roms. For those who are thinking about changing TOS versions, this may come in handy. For 1M x 6 Roms you have to remove U12 (74LS11) and set jumpers W2 to 2-3, W3 to 2-3 and install jumper W4. For 256k Roms remove U12 and set jumpers W2 to 1-2, W3 1-2 and install W4. For 1M x 2 Roms, set W2 to 2-3, W3 to 2-3, remove W4 and install U12. All listed mods are at the lower left corner of the main board, near the rom sockets. Still would like to know what eproms I would need to burn a set of TOS roms. classics
Still would like to know what eproms I would need to burn a set of TOS roms. I believe you just burn the image even/odd on a pair of 27c010 1mbit eproms. Steve

+Guitarman
I think, from what I have seen, the 27C1001 and 27C010 are the same, just different manufacturers, but I may be wrong!!! Is there anyone that can verify what chips I would need to burn TOS to both a 2 chip and a 6 chip version?? Thanks.

Yes the Chips are the same (27C1001 and 27C010) if look closely at some Original 1.4, 206 and Tos 306 chipsets you will notice thay are at times mixed with both types. If you can setup your board to run the 2 chipsets you should not have any problems running tos version 1.4 and with mods you can run tos 206 (only for advanced users with some soldering skills) with no problems I hope this helps chance227
+Guitarman
I have an eprom burner but have not yet figured out the procedure of splitting a rom file to its even and odd halves. Can anyone assist in or post a set of TOS 1.04 2-chip rom files already split for odd/even or point me to an app that will split a single rom file to its odd/even parts?? The files would be easier but I would also like to learn the process.
tjlazer
Actually for 6 chips it is 27C256 for the older TOS's. I have some tools for splitting the ROM, pmail me and I can send them over.

+Guitarman
OK, next question. 27c256=28pin 27c1001/010=32pin. How do I get the 27c1001/010 in the 28pin slot???
tjlazer
You can't. You need to order the special 28 PIN 2 chip TOS from Atari dealers! Or do some hacking to get it done (not worth it IMHO.)

+Guitarman
Let's resurrect and old thread!!! Burning TOS 2.06 for my MegaSTe's. I have the 27C010/1001 chips. Is there a pin equivalent eeprom/flash prom that can be used?? I have a few 29c010 that I'm getting conflicting pinout comparisons when searching compatibility. Can the 29C010 be used?? +Guitarman
Question answered. Went ahead and wrote TOS 2.06 to two 29C010 chips and it work great!!! So much nicer than having to erase a pair of 27c010!! The 29C010's erase in about 5 seconds!!!
