Feralstorm
Neat, but... Joysticks?
tcv
It's neat... but... The video says they use the original controller types? Huh? They're using joysticks. Also, closeups of the game show that the collision and physics aren't quite perfected. Pretty cool, though!!
+remowilliams
That's an insane feat of retro electromechanical engineering!
Thomas Jentzsch
Neat, but... Joysticks? My thoughts exactly. Shouldn't have been a big problem to use paddles instead.
atwwong
That was actually very interesting and educational. I like the picture of Nolan Bushnell and the other guy, what's-his-name? Quite comical...
TimsterAA
Those joysticks look remarkably similar to the Commodore 64 Plug-n-Play handheld I purchased last year. Very distinctive look (all black, ball-topped stick, two red buttons on top). Didn't look like generic joysticks. --Timster--

They're legendary amongst C64 users, that's why their design (unfortunately not the quality) was mimic'd for the C64 DTV.
NightSprinter
Gotta agree with Cybergoth on that one. Though from what I remember, it wasn't just the Commodores it was legendary for over in Europe. It (as well as the Zip Stick) was a very popular joystick for any 8-bit or 16-bit computer at the time. TimsterAA
Hmmm... the joystick favored by me and my 8-bit playing friends back-in-the-day was the WICO stick. Anything by WICO seemed to last forever (I still have a few that work as good as day one). I never saw the joystick the DTV was based on until I bought a DTV. A euro thing, maybe? --Timster--

Almost agree. Just not with "at the time", as they're still produced: Classic C64/Amiga compatible Modern USB Variant

And for the quality: the old ones were great, mine are still working!!!!
Cybergoth
great link, didn´t know they are produced again. Die USB Variante kriegt man eigentlich schon seit geraumer Zeit (2-3 Jahre) in jedem Saturn/Mediamarkt und kostet nur 1/4 von einem Stelladaptor
