It will go Orange when it is in standby mode, but connected to WiiConnect24. Red when in standby and NOT connected to WiiConnect24. If you want to turn off WiiConnect24 then you have to turn it off in the Wii Menu/Internet settings area. By default I believe WiiConnect24 is automatically turned on once you put in your Wi-Fi settings and have connected successfully to the Nintendo Wii service.
