KAZ
Thanks, I was looking at Atariage.com by company... It was just odd that CX2614 and CX2619 were missing CX2619 I later discovered from from Sears also. The title is: "Stellar Track". Now this is all very boring, but the real point is that I'd like to collect the first 20 (or maybe even 30, not sure how high I'll go) Atari games. Since CX model numbers are used by Sears, I suppose it is logical for me to pick up these two SEARS cartridges, tho they aren't technically from Atari or something
Room 34
I am totally obsessed with Atari's game numbering scheme! The 3 Sears-only games all had Atari model numbers assigned, but were never made by Atari. The third is "Submarine Commander," CX2647. Atari started off with some kind of "series" numbers, I think, if you look at the first 9 games released (the ones with numbers on the end labels): WAR/ACTION GAMES: 01 Combat 02 Air-Sea Battle 03 Star Ship RACING GAMES: 11 Indy 500 12 Street Racer SPORTS GAMES: 21 Video Olympics STRATEGY/SKILL GAMES: 41 Surround CASINO GAMES: 51 Blackjack LEARNING GAMES: 61 Basic Math For a while they maintained this scheme, but it derailed fairly quickly and then they more or less went sequentially, filling in some of the gaps (like CX2609 for "Defender") later. My goal has been to collect all of their games from the text and black/picture label era. I'm still waiting for one last one to arrive ("Math Gran Prix" -- although I've failed in 3 attempts to acquire "Submarine Commander," it's not a "true" Atari release). I am planning to put together a "game checklist" (like the ones that used to come with baseball cards) on my Atari web site... maybe someday soon... That would be cool I loved those checklists that came with the baseball cards [/u]
KAZ
Well with collecting anything you have to have some sort of goal or scheme or organizing element involved. I've been collecting games simply based on "fun" since I first started collecting. Except when I'm at the Goodwill I will pick up games that I don't have, just because they are easy to get, and are right in front of me (don't have to deal with the Ebay "hassles") My collecting organization is starting to get thrown into chaos since I started a spreadsheet where all these Atari model numbers are listed. I too would think it would be MEGA cool to have at least all the text labels with the numbers.... Like 01 Combat 02 Air Sea Battle etc. Right now I have 21 Video Olympics 11 Indy 500 Those are the only NUMBERED end labels I have. Just got em yesterday in fact from the Goodwill! I have Combat and Air Sea Battle but they are the picture labels. So I would like to get the 01 Combat and 02 Air Sea Battle because of that collecting scheme Would make for a hell of a display, to have the first ten or all the numbered carts like that! KAZ
So there is no 09 Defender I take it?
ATARIPITBULL
My only plan for collecting atari 2600 games is to buy anthing complete in a box that I don't have in my collection, but I will buy a rare cartridge loose if I know there is about no chance of getting it with the box and manual. Cassidy Nolen
Way to go! Another bunch of collectors that work by the numbers! I set a goal of Cx2601- CX 26100 BOXED! I have all but a few boxed, but do have all of the carts. I even went as far as buying an eprom burner so I can "make" the ones that were missing. Tempest, Frog Pond, etc. As for the 01, 02, etc, I have all of the gatefold titles as well, but still missing a few of the boxes. Gotta love the numbers! Room 34
So there is no 09 Defender I take it? Nope... There's no text label version of Defender at all because by the time it was released, Atari was entirely into the picture labels. The first two games made with picture labels (and therefore never made with text labels) were Missile Command and Video Pinball. That's why there are variants of them with the titles in lowercase. Atari hadn't totally settled on the design of the picture labels yet! Any games released before these two are available with text labels (and most of those were redone with picture labels). Any games released after these are not available with text labels. As for the text/number labels, only the original 9 games were available with the numbers on the end labels. Room 34
OK, I have the Atari 2600 cartridge checklist page up. It only has carts made by Atari in the list right now, but I will be adding separate lists for other manufacturers. Also, it presently only lists officially released games, but I am going to add the never-released and prototype games as well. Check it out and let me know what you think! atari70s
i got all 9 original 9 carts 01 02 03 11 12 21 41 51 61 my question is i got an 02 endlabel and a regular text top label is this a 02. lets hear the the wide range of responces
Room 34
regular text top label is this a 02 What exactly do you mean by "regular text top label"? Can you scan it and post a picture? The main thing I've noticed with the top labels on the carts with numbered end labels is that the text is kind of irregular (spacing and alignment) and the "game program" text at the top is really big, so it stretches almost all the way across the label. That's the easiest way for me to spot a text/number cartridge without even seeing the end label.
