How to hide annoying News Feed events in Facebook

Facebook is much more enjoyable when you don't see all the updates from the various games.
When some new game announcement shows up, move your mouse pointer to the upper/right of the message
When you're in the right area a HIDE button will be revealed, click it
The news will be replaced by a couple of hide buttons and a cancel button. Click the 2nd hide button (if you choose to click the 1st button, is that person really your friend?)
A confirmation message will show up with quick access to Edit Options where you can manage the things you've blocked from the News Feed.
It can also get annoying when multiple friends try to get you to play something you're not interested in. These requests can also be blocked - the option's not hidden like the HIDE button, but it is very easy to overlook this option. Instead of clicking the IGNORE button, click the Block This Application found just below the ACCEPT button. Once done you won't get any more requests from that app.
