ICQ support dropped

Due to last protokol changes ICQ repeatedly kept my messenger offline. But instead of installing the ad-blown original ICQ client, i'll completely drop my usage of ICQ and AIM instant messaging.   I am sick of this shit. ICQ was great stuff, until AOL buyed them.   Contact me over Jabber: xbeetle@googlemail.com/Home

New items in Atari collection

Here's a pic of my newest Atari gem: a nice TT030     It still needs a little upgrading but runs fine already.     Some weeks ago i also got a MegaSTE which i already played around with, but the TT is handier since it has all resolutions converted to match a VGA Monitor.   I can run games in ST-medium or low but they get displayed on the Sony 17".   This is my second Sony CRT display device (got it for free). My first one is hanging under the ceiling here.

600XL runs!

The 600XL i got runs good. I already upgraded it to 64k and cleaned it up. The keyboard had a dead "ESC" key, which i replaced with one from a PC keyboard (old Cherry AT).     Other Topic:   For those who wonder what it looks like if my IRC nick is "BeetleXLD" i made this screenshot:

New Member in the XL Computer Family

Today i purchased a 600XL computer off eBay. For that price (€9,38) it can't be too bad.   Lets just hope it works. The seller wrote he sold it as defect, because he has no power supply for it.

Mobile IRC

Hi   Some people wonder how i can connect to the IRC or telnet chat or even be on ICQ, while travelling by train, bus or being at work.   Well, this neat mobile setup works everywhere:   No cables needed, the two connect via infrared.

1250XLD - 2

Started the electronics on my 1250XLD now.   First task was to fix the 1200XL keyboard, which i managed according to http://www.retrobits.net/atari/keyboard.shtml .   The i lengthened the ribbon cord by replacing it with a new one. Works!

April April!

I managed to fool the atariage community!   Some clever people smelled it, though, but it was a day of much fun and raised the blood pressure of some atarians to heights not reached a long time.   Over 1200 hits in two days is a good indicator of everyone else had fun, too.   So that was the 1200XL casemod i referred last entry.

Done!

I am done with the mod of my 1200XL. At least on the outside. Now the electronics can be started.   Beetle

Yippieh!

I got my own 1200XL!   I know that this is not such a big thing to many of the users here, but in good old germany, the 1200XL was never officially sold and is pretty rare.   Now lets see what we can make with the new member...   Happy, Beetle

XL works again cont.

After i got my working XL-mainboard back, i started to reassemble my computer. So the internal Freezer 2005, the stereo-upgrade, the GTIA-keyboard-klicker, the BASIC-LED, the XE-style keyboard mounting mod and the internal SIO2PC interface got back on their places. The RAM-bank indicator is left out at the moment, as the ramdisk is twice as big as before, so i need now 32 LEDs to show which bank is accessed. By the way, as you may have read, the memory of my XL is SRAM now, so put in a nc-accu to

My XL finally got repaired. Mega-Hz (Wolfram Fischer) did a complete mod to the destroyed memory-unit.   Here is a first picture, more to come on tuesday or so.

XL dead :-(

Last Sunday my XL died. In the mornig he ran just fine, as usual. But when i tried to enter the "Euro Chat" on Greg's BBS the atari just didn't boot.   I tried all i can, but without luck. I'll send it to Wolfram, He may be able to fix it.

HAR Meeting on last Sunday

On Sunday, Sep 3rd a meeting of the "HAR", which is subgroup of the ABBUC, took place. It was great again. We saw some of Bernd's game cartridges with 5200 conversions, Mega-Hz showed us some info about his ongoing secret project. I showed my 1001 and a second one which is half way done. I also showed how to use BBS's via SIO2PC and Telnet.   Later we connected to the chat on Greg's BBS, which was a lot of fun.   I look forward to the next meeting.

Linux

Yesterday Mirko Sobe (aka AtariXLE) showed me how to use my Atari XL and the sio2pc interface as a terminal for Linux. Now i can use my 800XL for surfing atariage, looking for mail and even chat on icq - while i'm logged in to my PC's ubuntu installation.   Very cool stuf - and tons of posibilities still to explore.

1001 case build

I finished the assemby of the second Atari 1001 i build. The 800XL case i got for this purpose, was heavily modded,so i still have to fill a lot of holes before painting.I plan to sell this unit, perhaps on the ABBUC meeting in Herten this fall.Oh, i was online with my Atari 800XL today! I connectedto several BBS's with my Atari XL -> SIO2PC -> APE setup. It worked very well. I spend hours on reading. Thanksto the Super-Video Mod i did on my XL, the 80 columndisplay of Ice-T is very readable
